Our client specializes in construction, forestry, road construction, and civil works. They are seeking a motivated and experienced Project Manager to oversee civil construction, infrastructure, and mining projects throughout British Columbia. The Project Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, executing, and closing projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with provincial regulations, environmental standards, and client requirements.
The role requires strong leadership in heavy civil operations, stakeholder coordination, contract administration, safety management, and field execution in remote and challenging environments.
Project Planning & Execution
- Lead all phases of project delivery from pre-construction through completion.
- Develop project schedules, budgets, work plans, and resource allocations.
- Coordinate field crews, subcontractors, consultants, and suppliers.
- Monitor project progress and implement corrective actions where required.
- Ensure projects meet quality standards, technical specifications, and contractual obligations.
Civil Works Management
- Manage heavy civil construction activities including:
- road building
- site preparation
- earthworks
- excavation
- grading
- drainage systems
- bridges and culverts
- utility installation
- Oversee equipment utilization and productivity.
Mining Operations
- Coordinate infrastructure and operational support projects within mining environments.
- Ensure compliance with operational requirements for remote and industrial sites.
- Work closely with site superintendents and operations teams to minimize disruptions to production.
Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
- Promote a strong safety culture aligned with:
- WorkSafeBC regulations
- OH&S standards
- Health Safety and Reclamation code for mines in British Columbia
- Mines Act
- environmental legislation
- Conduct risk assessments, safety meetings, and incident investigations.
- Ensure environmental protection measures are implemented and maintained.
Financial & Contract Management
- Prepare and manage project budgets, forecasts, and cost tracking.
- Review and approve invoices, purchase orders, and change orders.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and reporting.
Client & Stakeholder Relations
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, Indigenous communities, regulators, and stakeholders.
- Lead project meetings and provide regular status updates.
- Support business development activities, tender submissions, and project proposals.
Requirements
- Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or related field.
- PMP certification considered an asset.
- 5–10+ years of project management experience in:
- heavy civil construction
- mining infrastructure
- forestry operations
- resource sector projects
- Strong understanding of:
- BC construction practices
- contract administration
- scheduling software
- cost control systems
- Experience managing remote site operations in Western Canada preferred.
· Valid Class 5 driver’s license and willingness to travel to remote project sites
TECHNICAL SKILLS
Proficiency with:
- Microsoft Project
- Primavera P6
- Excel
- AutoCAD (asset)
- ERP/project tracking systems
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Field-based role with significant time spent outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Travel to remote forestry and civil project sites throughout British Columbia
- Extended hours may be required during peak construction periods.
