Our client specializes in construction, forestry, road construction, and civil works. They are seeking a motivated and experienced Construction Quality / Field Engineer to support civil construction, earthmoving, and mine-related projects. This role is ideal for someone who is comfortable working both in the office and in the field, with the ability to develop project quality documentation, monitor construction activities, and support crews, supervisors, and project managers in meeting project specifications and quality requirements.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of civil earthworks, mining construction practices, quality control, and field execution. They must be able to write and manage Quality Management Plans, Inspection and Test Plans, procedures, checklists, and related project documentation while also spending time in the field verifying that work is being completed safely, correctly, and in accordance with project requirements.
- Developing and maintaining project-specific Quality Management Plans, Inspection and Test Plans, checklists, forms, and quality procedures.
- Reviewing drawings, specifications, contract requirements, and construction scopes to identify quality requirements.
- Monitoring earthworks and civil construction activities in the field, including excavation, grading, backfill, compaction, drainage, road construction, and mine infrastructure work.
- Supporting supervisors and crews with quality requirements, work methods, documentation, and field controls.
- Completing field inspections, quality checks, deficiency tracking, and verification of completed work.
- Coordinating testing and inspection requirements with third-party laboratories, consultants, engineers, and client representatives.
- Tracking quality records, test results, inspection reports, non-conformances, corrective actions, and turnover documentation.
- Assisting with constructability reviews, method statements, work plans, and technical submissions.
- Supporting project managers with progress reporting, technical documentation, RFIs, change support, and closeout packages.
- Promoting a strong safety and quality culture across field operations.
- Providing practical field guidance to ensure work is completed in accordance with drawings, specifications, regulatory requirements, and client expectations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, or a combination of experience
- 2–5+ years of experience in construction quality control or field engineering (civil/forestry projects preferred)
- Strong understanding of civil construction methods (earthworks, road building, drainage systems)
- Experience with surveying and grade verification is an asset
- Knowledge of materials testing procedures and interpretation of results
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and construction documentation software
- Strong knowledge of construction quality control and quality assurance practices.
- Experience preparing or managing Quality Management Plans, Inspection and Test Plans, inspection forms, and turnover documentation.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, survey data, technical reports, and contract documents.
- Practical field experience with earthworks, roads, pads, drainage, grading, excavation, compaction, aggregates, and mine support infrastructure.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and willingness to travel to remote project sites
PREFERRED ASSETS
- P.Eng., EIT, AScT, CTech, or equivalent experience.
- Experience working on active mine sites.
- Experience with ISO 9001-based quality management systems.
- Experience with civil materials testing, compaction testing, concrete testing, aggregate testing, or geotechnical field review.
- Experience with NCRs, corrective actions, audits, turnover packages, and client quality reporting.
- Familiarity with BC mining, construction, environmental, and occupational health and safety requirements.
- Experience using Microsoft 365, Sharepoint, or field reporting software (Machine Control).
- Familiarity with BC standards and specifications (e.g., MoTI, municipal, mining, or forestry road standards)
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Field-based role with significant time spent outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Travel to remote forestry and civil project sites throughout British Columbia
- Rotational schedules may be required depending on project location
