Prep Energy is seeking an experienced Electrical Project Manager to join its growing leadership team. This is a senior management opportunity for a proven electrical project leader who can bring structure, accountability, and strong commercial oversight to project delivery while helping support the company’s next stage of growth.
The ideal candidate brings sound technical judgment, strong people leadership, and the ability to build trust across clients, trades, suppliers, and internal teams. With mentorship from the General Manager and demonstrated success in the position, the Project Manager will have the opportunity and support to grow into broader senior executive responsibility over time.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Management and Delivery
- Manage and lead multiple electrical projects, including commercial, industrial, and tenant improvement projects, from initiation through completion.
- Ensure all projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
- Develop comprehensive project plans, including schedules, labour planning, procurement strategies, documentation requirements, and risk mitigation.
- Maintain clear oversight of project execution to ensure priorities, timelines, and deliverables remain aligned.
Team Leadership and Coordination
- Provide clear direction, support, and leadership to project teams and site tradespeople.
- Foster a collaborative team environment focused on accountability, continuous improvement, and pride in quality and execution.
- Promote strong coordination between office and field teams through clear expectations, practical problem solving, and consistent follow-through.
Client and Stakeholder Relations
- Serve as a primary point of contact for clients throughout the project lifecycle.
- Maintain strong client relationships through effective communication, exceptional service, and a focus on customer satisfaction.
- Promptly address project issues, client concerns, and service needs.
- Represent Prep Energy with professionalism and dependability in all client and stakeholder interactions.
Safety and Compliance
- Uphold strict safety standards and compliance with all regulatory and company safety requirements on every project.
- Proactively identify and mitigate risks to ensure a safe work environment for all team members.
- Lead by example in safety meetings, site protocols, and day-to-day project execution. Reinforce safe work practices and quality expectations across project teams and subcontractors.
Budget and Risk Management
- Oversee project budgets, monthly billings, invoicing, and financial targets.
- Monitor project performance, schedules, labour requirements, procurement needs, and cost controls to maintain strong visibility across active work.
- Identify risks early and take practical action to reduce delays, cost overruns, safety concerns, and disruptions to project delivery. Ensure financial targets are tracked and managed throughout the project lifecycle.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.
- Oversee the selection and management of subcontractors when required, ensuring they meet Prep Energy’s quality and safety expectations.
- Prepare, review, and maintain detailed project documentation, including drawings, schedules, progress reports, change orders, and testing records. Provide regular project updates to senior management and stakeholders, ensuring transparency and clarity.
Senior Leadership and Business Development
- Work closely with senior leadership on strategic planning and business development initiatives.
- Contribute to strategies aimed at expanding annual project volume from $4 million to $10 million over the next three years.
- Participate in high-level decision-making and contribute ideas, systems, or processes that enhance performance, safety, and profitability.
- Support continuous improvement by identifying operational inefficiencies and introducing practical improvements to strengthen project delivery.
Requirements
Education and Certifications
- Red Seal Certified Electrician, Journeyperson, or actively pursuing certification is strongly preferred.
- Candidates with an Electrical Engineering or Technologist background and equivalent project experience will also be considered.
- Project management certification, such as PMP, is considered an asset.
Experience and Knowledge
- 10+ years of successful project management experience in commercial electrical contracting.
- Proven track record managing projects of varying sizes, with projects in the $100K to $10 million range preferred.
- Demonstrated success delivering projects on scope, schedule, and budget.
- Experience working with or for reputable electrical contractors is a strong asset.
- Familiarity with industry best practices and standards in Western Canada’s electrical construction sector.
- Deep knowledge of workplace safety regulations and a commitment to maintaining a safe, healthy job site.
- Experience managing projects with unionized work crews, including IBEW, and implementing safety programs is considered an asset.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and mentor teams, coordinate subcontractors, and communicate effectively with clients, crews, and executive leadership.
- Big-picture oriented, with the ability to maintain momentum across active priorities while contributing to larger company goals and long-term business growth.
- Strong financial acumen, with an understanding of project financials, performance targets, and growth strategies.
- Ambition and aptitude to take on increasing responsibility as the company expands.
Technical Skills
- Able to review specifications and drawings and develop comprehensive project estimates and execution plans.
- Proficiency in project management software and tools, with experience using systems like Procore or similar PM software considered an asset.
- Solid skills in MS Office suite, scheduling software such as MS Project or Primavera, and document control.

- Location: Nanaimo, Vancouver Island (with travel to project sites as required)
- Compensation: $120,000 - $130,000 annually, based on skill set and experience
