The Payroll Technician is responsible for the full payroll cycle for one of our QuƩbec entities, working in close collaboration with the Payroll Supervisor in a production environment specific to animation and visual effects studios.
The person in this role ensures data accuracy, meets deadlines, maintains regulatory compliance, and delivers high-quality service to teams. They play a key role in effectively managing employee movements, ensuring rigorous payroll processing, and maintaining practices that comply with legal and organizational requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Payroll Administration
- Manage the full payroll cycle for approximately 350 employees in QuƩbec, including both permanent and contract employees.
- Process, validate, and reconcile payroll according to established deadlines, including bonuses, overtime, adjustments, retroactive payments, and other payroll-related items.
- Administer payroll-related employee changes, including hires, departures, contract extensions, status changes, and salary adjustments.
- Manage employee payroll files, including the creation, updating, and closing of records.
- Prepare Records of Employment and ensure the proper processing of employment terminations.
- Administer source deductions and required remittances, including QPP, QPIP, Employment Insurance, CNESST, and other related obligations.
- Ensure payroll processing complies with CRA, Revenu QuƩbec, and other applicable authority requirements.
- Contribute to year-end activities, including the preparation and issuance of tax slips such as T4s and RL-1s.
- Collaborate with the Finance team on payroll reconciliations, analyses, and reporting.
Support to Production Teams
- Manage payroll in a project-based environment driven by production cycles specific to animation and visual effects.
- Provide reliable, clear, and professional support to production teams, artists, technicians, and other employees on all payroll-related matters.
- Collaborate with HR, Finance, and Production teams to ensure the accurate and consistent processing of workforce movements, scheduling changes, and the resulting administrative impacts.
- Ensure the accuracy of payroll data used for tracking, compliance, and support related to applicable tax credit requirements.
Compliance and Governance
- Ensure payroll practices comply with QuƩbec labour standards and applicable legislation.
- Maintain complete, accurate, and well-documented records in preparation for audits and regulatory obligations.
- Participate in internal and external audits by preparing and providing the required documentation.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of payroll practices, tools, and processes.
