Railway engineering is one of the most important ways that AECOM delivers a better world. We work on major, complex and challenging railway infrastructure projects that increase urban and inter-city mobility for millions of people. AECOM is a global innovator in high-speed and urban transportation. Recent projects include major track improvements for the Southern Renewals Enterprise in England's busiest passenger corridors, the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Western Rail Link (Hung Shui Kiu-Qianhai), the Elephant & Castle Station capacity upgrade in London, and key design and asset protection services for Network Rail frameworks across the UK.
Our Summer Placement Programme provides students with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience on real projects while working alongside experienced engineers and multidisciplinary teams. You will develop technical, professional and collaborative skills in a supportive environment and gain an insight into a career in Rail Civil Engineering.
Job Responsibilities
During your placement, you will have the opportunity to:
- Support the development of rail civil engineering designs and project deliverables.
- Assist with integrating engineering designs from other railway disciplines, including signalling, electrification and permanent way.
- Support the planning of construction and commissioning activities to minimise disruption to passengers and the public.
- Contribute to designs that promote sustainable outcomes during construction and throughout the asset lifecycle.
- Assist in developing designs that are safe to build, operate and maintain.
- Support the preparation of concept and outline design proposals for rail maintenance, renewal and enhancement projects.
