Akron General’s 5400 Oncology Unit provides care to cancer patients, trains caregivers to give therapy and provides hands-on learning to achieve chemotherapy competency.As an RN, you will deliver exceptionalcare,throughout the patient care journey. In this role, you will interact directly with patients and their families, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience and provide healthcare education as needed.
This role offers the opportunity to positivelyimpactthe patient experience as you willdevelop good relationships with patients and havea big impacton their lives and their families.You will alsohave the opportunity toearn your chemotherapy certification and climb the clinical ladder.
A caregiver in this position worksnights from 7:00PM – 7:30AM,including every other weekend and 3 holidays per year.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Provide direct nursing care.
Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for a given patient population.
Complete ongoing assessments, recognize changes in patientconditionand respond appropriately.
Develop and update goals, involve patients and families incareand serve as a patient advocate.
Provide nursing care,administertreatments and medication, anddocument.
Participate in ongoing interdisciplinary evaluation of patient / family outcomes, contribute to the improvement ofcareandparticipatein the quality improvement process.
Delegate tasks, serve as a resource person, pursue ongoing education and specialty certifications,maintainapplicable certification/licensureand obtain any required certifications specific to the unit.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing(Diploma,ADNor BSN program)
Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certificationthrough the American Heart Association (AHA) Certification or American Red Cross
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Bachelor’sofScience inNursing (BSN)
