Akron General’s 4200 Unit is a Complex Cardiovascular Unit thatservesa diverse population,withpatients recovering fromopen-heart surgeries, amputations,lung operations, heartattacksand other critical medical concerns. As aHealthUnit Clerkon this unit,you will greet newly admitted and transferred patients, helpingfacilitateahealingand supportive environment. You will coordinate communication between patients,familiesand healthcare staff to enhance unit functioning and organization. In this role, you can also explore professional development opportunities to enhance your skills, advance to higherpositionsor seek further education.
A caregiver in this position worksdays from7:00AM – 3:30PM,including every other weekend and 3 holidays per year.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Perform administrative and clerical duties.
Conduct an in-person greeting and welcome newly admitted and transferred patients to the unit.
Respond to patient call lights in a manner thatexpeditesappropriate followthrough as needed.
Make rounds on patients throughout their hospital stay.
Communicate with andfacilitatecommunication between patients, families, otherdepartmentsand healthcare team membersregardingpatient care.
Assistwith processing patient admissions,transfersand discharges.
Provide concierge service toassistpatients and families with wayfinding and directing them to available resources.
Assemble andmaintainpatient medical records and other documents related to patient care.
Troubleshoot equipment such as callsystem, portable phones,WOWsand other unit devices.
Keep nursing stations clean and organized.
Complete mandatory education and training.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma or GED
One year of experience in a customer service-related role
Prior job experience with typing or computer training or equivalent coursework
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Microsoft Office experience
