Mercy Hospital’s 5BOrthopaedicUnitoffers medicalservices forhip and knee replacements,spine/necksurgeries, andtrauma fromgunshots, wounds, stabbings, caraccidentsandseverefalls.This collaborative unit works withOrthopaedicSurgeons, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Physical Therapists, OccupationalTherapistsand the trauma team.As an RN on this team, you willassistfellow caregivers in delivering exceptional care, frominitialintroduction to final send-off. In this role, you will interact directly with patients,familiesand visitors, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience and supply healthcare education as needed. A caregiver in this position worksnightsfrom7:00PM – 7:30AM,includingrotating weekends and holidays.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Provide direct nursing care.
Implement, monitor, evaluate,updateand revise patient care plans.
Monitor, record, document and communicate patients’ conditions.
Administerprescribed medications and treatments.
Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
Assess andcoordinatepatients’ discharge needs.
Educate patients and their families.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduate from an accreditedSchool ofProfessionalNursing(Diploma,ADNor BSN program)
Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
Basic Life Support (BLS)Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)or American Red Cross
Oneyear of current acute care RN experienceORlicensedmilitary RN experience
