As a Laboratory Supervisor, you will supervise laboratory operations andbe responsible forall employment-related activities, budgets, fiscalperformanceand quality assurance.Through collaboration with department leaders, you will help ensure patient safety and facilitatethe turnaround times from the lab.This role requires strong leadership, technicalexpertiseand a commitment to operational excellence within the laboratory environment.
A caregiver in this position works Monday-Fridayfrom1:00PM – 9:00PM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Be responsible forthe technical and scientific oversight of the laboratory,day to-day laboratory operation, personnel performingtestingand reporting test results.
Participate in selecting testmethodologyappropriate forthe clinical use of the test results.
Participate in verifying test procedures performed andestablishinglaboratory's test performance characteristics, including the precision and accuracy of each test and test system
Ensure enrollment and participation in an HHS approved proficiency testingprogramcommensurate with the services offered.
Establish a quality control programappropriate forthe testing performed,establishthe parameters for acceptable levels of analytic performance and ensure that these levels aremaintainedthroughout the entire testing process from theinitialreceipt of the specimen, through sample analysis and reporting of test results.
Resolve technical and operational problems and ensure that remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
Ensure that patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have beentakenand the test system is functioning properly.
Identifytraining needs and ensure that every performingtestsreceives regular in-service training and educationappropriate forthe type and complexity of the laboratory services performed.
Evaluate the competency of all testing personnel andassurethat the staffmaintaintheir competency to perform test procedures and report test results promptly,accuratelyand proficiently.
Ensure the competency of testing personnel in areas ofresponsibilityi.e.moderately complexity and/or high complexity testing.
Ensure that the staffmaintaintheir competency to perform test procedures and report test results promptly,accuratelyand proficiently.
Evaluate and document competency assessment of testing personnel in laboratory area of responsibility at least semiannually during the first year the testing personneltestspatient specimens and annually thereafter.
Evaluate testing personnel competency through:
Monitoring the recording and reporting of test results.
Reviewing intermediate test results or worksheets, quality control records,proficiencytestingresultsand preventive maintenance records.
Direct observation of performance of instrument maintenance and function checks.
Assessment of test performance through testing previously analyzed specimens, internal blind testingsamplesor externalproficiencytesting samples.
Assessment of problem-solving skills.
Supervise staff and handle staffing, hiring, orientation, scheduling,evaluatingand developing staff including continuing education initiatives.
Maintain instruments and equipmentin accordance withmanufacturer’s specifications.
