Position Summary
University Health Network (UHN) is looking for an experienced transformative leader to fill the key role of Manager of Professional Practice. The primary initial assignment is within our Acute Care Programs based out of the Toronto General Hospital in the clinical areas of the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, Critical Care (3 Intensive Care Units: Med Surgical, Cardio Vascular and Coronary Care), Hyperbaric and various outpatient clinics and procedural units. This may evolve as required with department or UHN evolutions.
The Manager of Professional Practice (MPP), a member of the UHN’s Collaborative Academic Practice (CAP) portfolio, under the direction of the Senior Director of Professional Practice (DPP), is accountable for academic clinical practice in alignment to UHN’s Purpose, Values and Principles and is key in aligning work within and across clinical programs, sites and organizational practice priorities. The role focuses on the integration of care, patient safety and quality; and the use of technology to enable care, teaching and research.
Duties
- Lead service and program and select corporate initiatives based on the current and evolving patient care and practice standards
- Develop and implement policies and practice guidance relating to provisions of care, organization-wide healthcare delivery model changes which advance University Health Network's (UHN)'s foundational value of Patient Centered Care and its mission
- Develop and motivate a cohesive team and assist in identifying and supporting educational strategies to enhance staff knowledge with respect to professional practice and patient care
- Support the development, implementation and maintenance of profession-specific and interprofessional practice standards at the program level and across UHN, medical directive and order set/tool development , as well as performing cross-functional and other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned or requested
- Collaborate with other site DPPs, MPPs, other nursing and allied health practice leaders to ensure that practice standards are aligned and integrated, where possible, across programs, and organization wide
- Supervise a number of Advanced Practice Nurse Educators (APNEs) (approximately 5-7) across the portfolio and maintain strong linkages with UHN’s practice-based education office
- Establish, maintain and lead a number of quality improvement initiatives and work closely with the DPP as well as other practice and operational colleagues (Unit Managers, Clinical Directors, Pharmacy, Diagnostics, Digital) to promote a vision of practice excellence, integrating practice-based education, point-of-care research capacity and a data driven approach within and across UHN programs, hospitals and in the external community Mentorship of diverse staff and learners
- Actively engage in organization-wide initiatives, most notably the optimization of UHN’s health information system
