The Director, Granting role is a multi-faceted position that reports directly to the Vice-President, Granting, Strategic Integration and Donor Stewardship. This role will lead a team of 2-5 individuals, and will be responsible for designing, implementing and coordinating an organization-wide comprehensive, performance and evidence-driven granting and accountability process that is best in class. The role ensures that granting activities advance the Foundation’s mission, uphold donor intent, and meet the highest standards of financial stewardship, transparency, and accountability.
Areas of Accountability
- Assess, design and evaluate an enhanced process for granting, fund allocation and accountability reporting from beneficiaries, including a review of the effectiveness of current efforts and where development and implementation of new frameworks and programs would be most beneficial.
- Partner closely with Cancer Centre/UHN leadership to ensure strategic alignment with priorities and proactively follow up with hospital stakeholders on delays, underspending, or project scope changes.
- Define key metrics and develop internal team-based and donor-facing scorecards to track portfolio progress on grant utilization, outstanding commitments, and project impact for senior management and the Board.
- Regularly review grant spending, project status, and milestones to ensure funded initiatives are progressing as approved.
- Support impact reporting and donor stewardship by ensuring timely and accurate information on funded outcomes.
- Ensure granting activities comply with applicable legislation, CRA requirements, Foundation policies, and Board approvals.
- Identify and manage granting-related risks, including reputational, financial, and compliance risks.
- Contribute to policy development and continuous improvement related to granting, restricted funds, and endowments.
- Develop progress reports and briefings, partnering with Cancer Centre leadership, communicating and establishing policies to staff members to ensure efficient and effective implementation.
- Play a central role in relationship management with fund owners in the Cancer Centre, ensuring funds make an impact in a timely manner and are aligned to donor commitments.
- Stay engaged in scanning the environment for relevant and material trends, information and data that apply to the continuous improvement of granting and accountability programs/processes.
- Work on additional special projects, as assigned.
