The Multi‑Services Vehicle (MSV) Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of MSVs within an active tunnel construction environment. This role supports TBM operations by transporting materials, equipment, personnel, and supplies throughout the tunnel while adhering to strict tunnel safety protocols and operational procedures. Operators play a vital logistics role to ensure continuous TBM advancement and overall project productivity.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate Multi‑Service Vehicles to transport tunnel segments, grout, consumables, equipment, and personnel within the tunnel.
- Configure MSV units for travel, including coupling/uncoupling trailers, adjusting steering modes, and preparing vehicle systems for loaded or unloaded travel.
- Navigate complex underground alignments, gradients, curves, and restricted spaces while maintaining full control of the MSV and ensuring safety of nearby workers.
- Position MSV accurately for loading and unloading materials at designated TBM supply points, storage zones, and surface loading areas.
- Conduct thorough pre‑use inspections, checking mechanical components, wheels, hydraulic systems, electrical functions, and safety devices.
- Report defects or hazards immediately and coordinate with mechanics for maintenance and repairs.
- Complete shutdown procedures including securing MSV units, isolating systems, and parking rolling stock safely.
- Follow tunnel‑specific rules, regulations, emergency procedures, and confined‑space requirements as mandated by tunnelling safety standards.
- Adhere strictly to site signalling, radio communication protocols, and traffic management systems within the tunnel.
- Ensure all loads are secured, balanced, and compliant with load‑integrity rules before travel.
- Maintain constant communication with TBM operations, logistics teams, and tunnel supervisors to coordinate material flows and operational timing.
- Assist other tunnel workers, including technicians, during shunting, trailer coupling, or material handling tasks.
- Maintain clean, safe work areas, including loading zones, MSV parking areas, and travel paths.
- Support general tunnel labour tasks as required, contributing to smooth TBM operations.
- Ability to operate MSV systems, understand vehicle components, and manage hydraulic/electrical functions safely.
- Strong understanding of tunnel‑specific procedures, environmental conditions (fumes, noise, air quality), and safety legislation.
- Skilled in communication, teamwork, and situational awareness in confined underground environments.
- Competence in following instructions, interpreting operational signage, and interacting effectively with tunnel crews.
- Ability to respond appropriately to emergencies, unplanned situations, and equipment issues.
