For a leading pharmaceutical company: Business Development Manager
Responsibilities
- Execute company's growth strategy by developing a comprehensive annual business plan specifying financial goals in line with corporate objectives.
- Identify potential growth opportunities within the generics and value-added medicines sector, actively building and growing partner relationships to increase awareness of company's contract development capabilities.
- Have a proactive, hands-on approach to business development to ensure that revenue targets and KPIs are consistently over-achieved, with incremental revenue growth from both existing partnerships and new client acquisition.
- Act as the business development/transaction interface between internal R&D teams and potential partner companies, driving the contract development process from initial prospecting through technical feasibility assessment, proposal creation, contract drafting, negotiation, and implementation.
- Identify and understand customers pharmaceutical development challenges and unmet needs, particularly in generic formulation development, hybrid applications, and value-added medicine programs.
- Take the lead in identifying new project opportunities, assessing feasibility with internal scientific teams, mitigating possible areas of risk, and creating value-added solutions throughout the drug development lifecycle.
- Understand client requirements and collaborate with R&D and regulatory teams to create and present compelling, scientifically-sound proposals and responses to customer requests for development services.
- Support market research activities focused on generic pipeline opportunities, patent expiries, and value-added medicine trends; leverage insights to inform partnering discussions and priorities.
- Constantly monitor the competitive landscape for contract development organizations (CDOs/CDMOs) and adjust business development priorities accordingly.
- Identify new customers for expanded business development.
- Monitor company's project pipeline, growth metrics, and business trends regarding competition.
Requirements
- BSc or MSc in a scientific field (e.g., Pharmacy, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Life Sciences); an MBA or business qualification is a plus.
- 5+ years of business development experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
- Experience within CDMO/CDO environments, contract pharmaceutical development, or generics/value-added medicines is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of pharmaceutical partnering deals and service agreements within the EU pharma landscape.
- Experience in market research related to pharmaceutical pipelines, patents, and generic opportunities.
- Knowledge of generic drug development, including formulation development, bioequivalence studies, and analytical methods.
- Familiarity with the drug development lifecycle, regulatory requirements (EMA/FDA), and GMP standards.
- Experience negotiating contracts and managing commercial agreements (e.g., MSAs, service agreements).
- Strong project management, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to work with R&D, regulatory, and manufacturing teams.
- Fluent English communication skills, both written and spoken.
