The primary purpose of the Surface Process Engineer in manufacturing is to optimize, troubleshoot, and validate surface treatment processes—such as plating, coating, painting, or cleaning—to enhance product quality and performance. They analyze production data, improve efficiency, and ensure adherence to safety and quality standards (e.g., ISO, SPC, Nadcap) for surface finishing operations.
Essential Job Functions:
- Maintain surface treatment processes to improve yield and reduce defects (e.g., coatings, plating, cleaning).
- Analyze production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions for surface defects.
- Install, qualify, and maintain specialized surface equipment and new machinery.
- Generate, update, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), technical records, and process parameters.
- Ensure all surface processes adhere to environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Use Statistical Process Control (SPC) and data interpretation to monitor process stability and identify improvement opportunities.
- Adhere and comply with company policies and regulations.
- Use measuring tools including micrometers, calipers, and indicators.
- Interpret blueprints and specification sheets.
- Monitor and maintain quality throughout production runs.
- Perform duties with minimal supervision.
- Proven track record of improving operational efficiency and implementing cost-saving measures.
- Strong communication, planning, and organizational skills.
Schedule: M-F, 7-3:30P CST. Ability to work after hours during the week and weekends, as the workload requires.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in process engineering.
- Knowledge of surface chemistry, plating baths, painting, or industrial coating techniques.
- Must have knowledge of shop production and machining operations.
- Must be able to read, analyze, comprehend, and interpret various Engineering Drawings, Models, Bills of Materials, Technical Specifications, Quality Documents, Customer Processes, and departmental procedures as necessary to perform assigned work.
- Must have Working knowledge of Manufacturing and Planning processes and procedures.
- Must be a U.S citizen.

- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain working relationships with staff, management, and other departments.
- Experience in Aerospace manufacturing or Military/Government Service background
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods standing and working in a shop environment.
