Are you ready to put your experience to work at Northrop Grumman? If so, our Defense Systems wants you to join our Team as a SCA Aircraft Mechanic 2 (Fuels) and support a maintenance program with Northrop Grumman in Lake Charles, LA.
The Navy E-6 is an airborne command post and communications relay based on the Boeing 707 platform The aircraft are utilized primarily for long-range patrols along the entire U.S. border, and in source and transit zone countries. This platform, now modified to the E-6B standard, conveys instructions from the National Command Authority to fleet ballistic missile submarines, a mission known as TACAMO ("Take Charge And Move Out").
**These positions are Service Contract Act positions.
**This position will be hired for any shift.
Your primary duties include:
Perform removal, installation, and inspection functions of fuel cells and assembly, and installation of components such as fuel lines, hardware, and fittings on various aircraft.
Analyze various aircraft sealing, structural, and assembly drawings, to detect seal level deficiencies. Diagnose results of leak test to detect drawing, specification, structural and assembly sealing errors. Recommend corrective action necessary to correct deficiencies.
Perform disassembly and teardown operations of aircraft fuel systems and related components. Remove fuel cells and components from aircraft, following specific procedures and techniques. Prepare cavity for installation of fuel cells and components. Install fuel cells and components, following specific procedures and techniques. Use appropriate pressure test equipment, and make repairs as required.
Check condition of fuel cells for any type of damage; and cavity, for condition of internal fittings.
Work from operation sheets, diagrams, blueprints, engineering orders, mil-specs and verbal instructions. Work with jigs, fixtures, and various tooling, as operations require. Assist other aircraft mechanics as required.
Maintain schedules and quality standards. Check work for completeness and accuracy. Notify supervision of any / all malfunctions, defects, and damages of equipment, material and product.
Additional responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Use a thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures and replacement of parts.
Use your broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair.
Use your basic knowledge of electrical theory.
Use your thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, and torque wrenches.
Replacing or repairing worn or damaged components, such as carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, and engine mounted gearboxes, and compressor bleed valves using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment.
Removing engine from aircraft, using hoist or forklift truck, disassembling and inspecting parts for wear, cracks, security, or other defects, and repairing or replacing defective engine parts and reassembles and installs engine in aircraft.
Adjusts, repairs, or replaces electrical wiring system and aircraft accessories.
Performs preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections.
Performs miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including flushing crankcase, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes.
Read and understand blueprints.
Translate blueprints into fabrications of structural assemblies to include: precision drilling, countersinking, and the use of calibrated tools.
Aligning parts on jigs using templates and fixtures.
Performing part-fitting operations: filing sawing, burring, crimping, trimming, framing, riveting, drilling and reaming.
Measures parts with precision tools such as, micrometers and calipers to verify dimensions.
May modify incomplete and complete assemblies to incorporate changes to structure and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
Daily usage of manufacturing shop controls and systems.
Recommend and implement continuous improvement activities in production methods, equipment performance and team effectiveness.
Work in other fields incidental to, and in connection with the completion of the assignment.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
You will receive technical guidance, as required, from supervisor or higher-level technician
Basic Qualification
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) and a minimum 6 years experience with fuel tanks and systems.
Able to perform work in an approved environment during specified work hours.
Able to change physical locations based upon need (including physical ability to travel).
Ability to be subject to a variety of physical conditions.
Able to wear respirator or other safety gear.
Ability to be subject to areas which could cause various phobias due to height or closed spaces.
Preferred Qualification
A&P License.
Prior E-6B/707 aircraft experience.
Able to obtain/maintain a Secret DoD clearance.
