Job Description
Office of Intercollegiate Athletics seeks a dynamic, forward thinking, and engaging Assistant Coach, Cross Country to join our department of Athletics. The successful candidate will demonstrate support for diversity, equity and inclusiveness as well as participate in maintaining a respectful, positive work environment.
Duties and Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To:
The coach will be expected to attend all practices, matches, staff meetings, retreats, golf tournaments, one night of volunteer work at the Opportunity Village's Magical Forest, along with community service with the team, awards banquet, staffing and working athletic events a few times for the designated spring sports during their seasons.
The coach "maybe" responsible for teaching 2 PEX Classes per semester and will earn an extra stipend for doing so.
Assist the Head Coach, women’s/men’s track in organizing, preparing, and conducting individual and team practices and trainings with emphasis on the women’s 800-meter through 10,000-meter events.
Serve as a positive role model for student-athletes.
Assist the Head Coach, as directed, in the recruitment of student-athletes in accordance with NCAA rules and university standards.
Assist, as appropriate, in planning and arranging team travel; may coordinate personnel and equipment transportation and accommodations.
Assist, as appropriate, in scheduling of team meets.
Establish a productive, well-rounded environment which stresses the importance of academics in conjunction with athletics.
Establish a professional relationship with students, staff, alumni, and the general public in an effort to promote the university and its athletics program.
Work closely with the sports medicine, academic and student services, and athletic performance staffs to monitor the progress of student-athletes.
Support the student-athlete concept and demonstrate concern for the health, safety, and welfare of each student-athlete.
Work cooperatively and responsibly with other departmental personnel.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must demonstrate the ability to recruit, coach and improve (teach) talented student-athletes.
Exhibit leadership and professional behavior in dealing with student athletes and staff.
Must be a team player and have the ability to support and assist other employees in a professional manner.
Develop a positive atmosphere for the program both internally and externally within the athletic department and College.
Physical Demands:
Sedentary Work- Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally: activity of condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (Frequently: activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
Requires frequent, sometimes prolonged work on a personal computer/laptop.
Working weekends, and evenings will be required as well as extensive travel around the Las Vegas valley and the state.
There is occasional out of state travel for games and recruiting purposes.
Additional physical lifting may be required to completed job assignments that exceed 10 pounds of force.
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelors degree plus a minimum of three years cross country/track coaching experience at the collegiate or comparable level.
General knowledge of intercollegiate athletics, NJCAA policies and compliance issues.
Must have experience in recruiting college student-athletes.
Starting Salary
$1,000 - $4,000 (10-month period)
PEX Classes: Extra Stipend based off enrollment/cap numbers.
