Job Summary
TOPS SCADA, Provide technical support for computer Distribution Management Systems (DMS) or Energy Management Systems (EMS) or Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and other technical infrastructure used in Distribution/Transmission Operations centers. Position requires a high degree of adaptability, and a focus on meeting customer needs and continuous improvement in the systems supported., Protection and Control SCADA, Provide some technical support Assist Protection and Control Engineering (PCE) SCADA Standards and Production activities related to Distribution or AEP Transmission. Assist in areas of standards development, scoping, RTU setting creation, and implementation troubleshooting. A high ability to organize and coordinate customer needs will be required.
Job Description
What you’ll do:
- TOPS SCADA Provide support/guidance or assist in providing support to less qualified Analysts on problem resolution. Train lower-level Analysts in specific equipment and software support activities.
- Maintain reliable operations of the DMS/EMS and SCADA systems Improve and make recommendations to improve the quality and reliability of DMS/EMS and SCADA data and related services Maintain real-time data interfaces Develop/improve/implement DMS/EMS and SCADA tools and software
- Keep DMS/EMS and SCADA tools up to date with current technologies. Build and maintain custom DMS/EMS and SCADA on-line displays Perform modeling, check-out and commissioning of Remote Terminal Units Build and maintain DMS/ EMS and SCADA models Define and make recommendation to implement internal DMS/EMS and SCADA standards
- Define and implement Human Performance Initiative rules and Key Performance Indicators around SCADA processes Protection and Control SCADA Able to scope small / medium SCADA projects with limited supervision and able to provide detailed feedback on scoping questions to Distribution/ PCE / Telecom
- Able to identify issues with processes and tools and provide possible solutions and provide input to more seasoned personnel. Able to complete complex RPA with both new and legacy aspects.
- Completes RPA with limited supervision. Able to complete complex RTU configuration with both new and legacy aspects. Completes configuration with limited supervision. Beginning to expand communication technology competency to include legacy applications (Async, Sync, AEP, etc.) Able to support stakeholders with common SCADA related issues.
- Able to complete alarm and basic I/O 2411 settings for both greenfield and brownfield projects with limited supervision. Implements standards in appropriate measures with limited guidance from higher-level team members.
- Assists higher level team members with overall SCADA compliance items.
- Lead training activity as part of advancement for other team and group members under Transmission University (TU) initiative and training center progression training. **applicable to Transmission only**
What we’re looking for:
DMS/EMS/SCADA Analyst Associate SG5
Education:
- Associate’s degree or higher from an accredited college/university in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications or related Technical field.
- Or high school diploma and two years related military or electric utility technical experience.
Experience:
- No experience necessary with degree or as stated above
- Education - Associates degree or equivalent technical, utility or military experience
- Experience- high school diploma and two years related military, technical, or utility experience .**
DMS/EMS/SCADA Analyst SG6
Education:
- Associates Degree or higher from an accredited college/university in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications or related Technical field.
- Or high school diploma and two years related military or electric utility technical experience.
Experience:
- Two (2) year DMS/EMS/SCADA experience with Associates Degree and four (4) years of experience with a high school diploma.
- Individuals with a Bachelor's Degree with no DMS/EMS/SCADA experience may be considered for entry into the organization at this level.
In addition to the DMS/EMS/SCADA experience noted above:
- Detailed knowledge is required in one (1) of the following areas: Application development Operating System support Computer system administration Database technologies and support
In addition:
- Demonstrates a more detailed entry level understanding of operational practices of applicable equipment and software in assigned areas of knowledge
- Strong skills in communication, issue resolution, organization, and facilitation are essential. Solid understanding of the business unit / operating company systems is preferred. Experience with SCADA systems preferred.
- Perform troubleshooting and problem resolution in assigned areas of knowledge with Senior Level guidance. Provide after-hours support for the EMS/SCADA systems as needed. Begin to gain an understanding of current technology utilized by AEP and understanding how it applies to SCADA with Senior Level guidance.
- Begin to gain an understanding of basic Protection and Control application and the affect it has on overall SCADA with Senior Level guidance.
- Begins to gain an understanding of what each type of equipment is in the substation with Senior Level guidance.
DMS/EMS/SCADA Analyst SG7
Education:
- Associate’s degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications or related technical field or higher from an accredited college/university
- Or high school diploma and two years related military or electric utility technical experience.
Experience:
- Four (4) years DMS/EMS/SCADA experience with associate’s degree and Six (6) years of experience with a high school diploma.
- Individuals with a bachelor’s degree and 2 years of DMS/EMS/SCADA experience may be considered for entry into the organization at this level.
