DPL is hiring 5 Night Custodians to help us achieve our goal of providing welcoming spaces to everyone. This position will work at our Central Library Branch supporting the goal of customer service by ensuring that the library environment is clean, safe and prepared for customer and staff use. Responsibilities include routine manual work involving custodial duties, moving furniture in Library buildings, snow removal and some outdoor landscaping duties.
Knowledge of cleaning materials and the operation of custodial equipment.
Ability to perform routine and repetitive manual tasks for extended periods.
Ability to work in a physically demanding position with continuous bending, kneeling, and lifting of objects that can weigh up to 25-50 pounds.
Ability to follow simple written or oral instructions.
Ability to work with a diverse group of people.
Ability to work independently.
Ability or willingness to learn to use basic workplace technology including email and internet.
Ability to provide excellent customer service skills.
Ability to perform interior custodial duties including mopping, dusting, and vacuuming and uses mechanical floor cleaners to polish, buff, strip, and wax floors.
Ability to perform exterior custodial/maintenance duties including snow removal, mowing lawns, pulling weeds, watering plants and lawns, raking leaves, picking up litter, and clearing dumpster areas and operating light machinery powered by small engines as necessary.
Ability to remove waste and soiled linens from the work area and gather and dispose of trash and waste which may contain hazardous materials.
Ability to clean and disinfect all fixtures, floors, mirrors, windows, doors, and walls including those in kitchens, bathrooms, utility rooms, locker rooms, weight rooms, holding cells, and other work areas and restocks supplies as needed.
Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for the minimum education requirement.
