The Journeyman Electrician safety and efficiently within their scope of expertise installs, maintains, services and repairs plant equipment used within the operation of the Swan Hills Treatment Centre (SHTC). The Incumbent follows all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and permitting requirements while achieving target KPIs. KPIs include safety, productivity, and quality of work performed. The Journeyman Electrician may be requested to mentor and train an assigned Apprentice(s) as well as oversee work performance of any Maintenance Technicians assisting with a work order or assist other tradespeople in the performance of their work. The Incumbent is required to work rotating day shifts.
This position operates within a COR, ISO 17025 certified, and OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 conforming plant environment and is expected to comply with all regulatory requirements. The facility operates on a 24/7 basis
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The duties of the Journeyman Electrician are as follows, but not limited to:

- Safely operates company owned, leased, or rented vehicles and/or mobile equipment . Incumbent is required to perform Safety Sensitive duties and responsibilities.
- Participates in shutdown and start-up planning.
- Participates in Hazops, PHA’s and RCM analysis.
- Conducts equipment checks and preventative maintenance on plant equipment.
- Installs new electrical equipment.
- Conducts work on high voltage switch gear, and other motor control centers including troubleshooting skills.
- Conducts work on or repair variable frequency drives and D.C. Drives.
- Provides technical assistance in the electrical area to aid other’s in the performance of their duties.
- Performs all daily regulatory preventative maintenance work is accurately and properly documented to meet the expectation of the plant operating approval.
- Assists in the maintenance of equipment, historical records and documentation of equipment change and modifications.
- Refers to applicable drawings when required. Verifies that field changes are redlined onto drawings through the Draftsperson. Does not use drawings that are unauthorized or out of date.
- Provides technical assistance in the area of Instrumentation to aid others in the performance of their duties.
- Assists other trades in the performance of their work as required due to the size of the facility.
- Mentors newer tradespeople and apprentices.
- Supports other initiatives of the Plant to promote a healthy and positive work environment and enhance employee morale and engagement.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH AND SAFETY (EH&S)
- Understands and is accountable for responsibilities as Journeyman Electrician as described in Sections 2-2 and 3-2 of the Alberta Occupational Health & Safety Act, the Swan Hills Treatment Centre Safety manual, EH&S Management System documentation and other relevant policies.
- Conducts a Safe Work Plan (SWP) review prior to any non-routine and critical activities. Documents and maintains a record of the meeting. Verifies that all involved in a SWP understand the risks and signs the document prior to starting the job.
- Acts upon, in a timely manner, any unsafe conditions observed.
- Performs work only where competence is met.
- Reports all out of the ordinary, external communication to their Supervisor or Manager.
- Produces legible and identifiable records and documents. Prevents production of unauthorized copies of documentation. Consults with the responsible Manager on replacement of lost or damaged documentation.
- Participates in pre-approved training to advance skills and competence.
- Reviews critical procedures as assigned by Supervisor or Manager.
- Understands role in an emergency.
- Reports all incidents, non- conformances, near misses, concerns and potential legal non-compliances immediately to their Supervisor or Manager.
- Cooperates with auditors to facilitate successful audits.
- Maintains a safe and clean workplace at all times.
