Overview:
The Director of Transportation is responsible for developing and implementing strategies related to carrier administration, transportation P&L, and transportation analytics. This role oversees logistics planning, freight quotes, regulatory compliance, cost control, and service performance to ensure the safe, efficient, and timely movement of our products. The Director of Transportation plays a critical role in supporting operational excellence and customer satisfaction while driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Here's what you'll do:
- Oversee and manage day-to-day domestic and export freight operations, ensuring efficient load planning, carrier coverage, and on-time delivery performance.
- Lead carrier selection, rate negotiations, and RFP processes to maintain a competitive and reliable carrier and broker network.
- Optimize freight utilization, including consolidation of LTL shipments, to reduce transportation costs and improve profitability.
- Manage transportation contracts in collaboration with Legal, ensuring favorable terms and compliance with company standards.
- Monitor carrier performance through KPIs and scorecards, addressing service failures and driving continuous improvement.
- Proactively identify and resolve transportation issues, including late shipments, uncovered loads, and operational disruptions.
- Develop, analyze, and manage Domestic and Export P&L reporting, providing regular KPI updates to Executive Leadership.
- Develop and manage the Transportation department budget, including forecasting, accrual reporting, and cost control initiatives.
- Oversee export logistics operations, including inland freight coordination to ports, compliance with port and pier requirements, and adherence to company export procedures.
- Partner with Sales and Export teams to negotiate competitive freight rates and support business growth initiatives.
- Manage relationships with third-party logistics providers, freight forwarders, and port partners to ensure alignment with company processes and service expectations.
- Collaborate with Customer Service and Accounting teams on freight claims management, invoice review, billing accuracy, and financial reconciliation.
- Lead new carrier onboarding and ensure compliance with company qualification standards.
- Monitor transportation flow in and out of facilities to minimize congestion, appointment delays, and service interruptions.
- Promote continuous process improvement to enhance service performance, cost efficiency, and operational scalability.
- Lead, mentor, and develop Transportation team members across multiple locations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Pay Range: $116,000 - $175,000 a year and may include a discretionary bonus. Final compensation will be dependent upon skills & experience.
