As the Event Director, you will be responsible for the strategic direction, growth, and success of the Toronto International Boat Show. This role focuses on driving financial performance, ensuring long-term sustainability, and aligning events with customer needs and market trends. By leveraging data and market insights, you will lead the team in designing and executing innovative, high-impact events that enhance profitability, customer loyalty, and brand value.
You will oversee the P&L for assigned events, guiding strategies for event design, customer experience, sponsorship opportunities, and operational excellence to maximize revenue and attendee satisfaction.
You lead the responsibility for complete coordination and communication to ensure growth, cost control, and superior customer service.
This position requires collaboration across departments, including finance, sales, marketing, education, and operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Event Management:
- Develop and execute event strategies aligned with company goals and long-term growth objectives.
- Design events with clear value propositions and measurable ROI for attendees and exhibitors.
- Use data to identify risks, opportunities, and performance trends, adjusting strategies to ensure growth.
- Collaborate with industry groups and associations to achieve shared objectives that support and enhance recreational boating across Ontario and Canada
- Leadership role in committee meetings, public speaking engagements, and media interactions
- Financial Leadership:
- Own the P&L for assigned events, providing actionable insights on financial risks, opportunities, and forecasts.
- Support annual financial planning and monthly forecasting to ensure events remain within budget and achieve profitability.
- Customer-Centric Event Design:
- Create immersive, interactive event experiences that meet customer expectations while adhering to financial targets.
- Leverage customer feedback and sentiment data to refine event strategies and improve satisfaction.
- Engage directly with customers to understand their needs and incorporate insights into event planning.
- Sales Oversight
- Support sales efforts by assisting with activities related to key accounts, including maintaining strong relationships, addressing client needs, and ensuring seamless communication to drive revenue growth.
- Marketing Oversight
- Collaborate closely with the Boat Show Marketing Team to guide the strategic marketing plans for the show.
- Sponsorship Development:
- Provide oversight and guidance to ensure sponsorship revenue targets are met by supporting the identification of new partnerships, optimizing existing relationships, and actively contributing to the sales process as needed.
- Team Leadership:
- Lead and mentor cross-functional teams, fostering collaboration, train and professional development.
- Provide regular feedback, coaching, and guidance to help team members achieve personal and professional goals.
- Build a strong, high-performance culture within the team without following the status quo.
- Operational Excellence:
- Oversee and manage floorplan allocation, ensuring optimal use of space, alignment with client requirements, and adherence to event objectives to maximize efficiency and customer satisfaction.

- Oversee the execution of live event features and activations, ensuring alignment with customer and financial expectations.
