As a Medical Technologist, you willperform and interpret tests at allcomplexitylevels. Using your understanding of the theories and technical,proceduraland problem-solving aspects of Laboratory Science, you will aid in the search todeterminethe best mode of care for patients. We will hire our clinical laboratory testing personnel in three different job titles, based on educational background:
Medical Technologist
Med Lab Technician
Lab Technician
APRNcaregiver in this position worksvaryingevenings from3:00PM ā 11:30PM or nights from 11:00PM ā 7:30AM. Availability towork onboth weekdays and weekends isrequired.
A caregiver who excels in this role, will:
ConductĀ quality laboratory testing andĀ resultĀ reporting.
Ensure that results are reported in compliance with the goals and standards of the department,Ā hospitalĀ and applicable accrediting organizations (AHCA, CLIA, COLA, and JCAHO).
AccuratelyĀ identifyĀ eachĀ patientĀ specimen and testing orders andĀ ensureĀ results areĀ accurateĀ and reportedĀ in a timely manner.
Ensure specimen integrity and identification and resolve specimens not meeting testing criteria.
IdentifyĀ and resolveĀ pending specimen results from laboratory informationĀ systemĀ for assigned departments.
Report pertinent information to the physician, patient careĀ areaĀ or supervisor (e.g., panic values, instrument malfunctions, delay in testing,Ā reagentĀ or supply depletion).
Note ādates openedā and āexpirationĀ datesā and use reagents and controls only to theirĀ expirationĀ dates.
Maintain cleanliness,Ā organizationĀ and stock of work area.
Follow troubleshooting procedures to correct deficiencies or problems as they occur with instruments and equipment.
Ensure instrument operation and results are reliable and perform maintenance checks, startups, andĀ shutdownsĀ as assigned orĀ required.
Answer the telephone, greetĀ customersĀ andĀ provideĀ consultĀ and technical support to the physicians,Ā phlebotomistsĀ and nursing staff.
Follow quality control policy andĀ ensureĀ controls are within acceptable limits before patient results are reported.
Document quality control and out of range results inĀ an appropriate manner.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal caregiver include:
Associateās Degree in Chemical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Medical Technology or equivalentĀ
Licensed in the State of Florida at the technologist levels
One or more specialties in Microbiology,Immunohematologyor all licenses
Preferred qualifications for the ideal caregiver include:
Bachelorās Degree in Chemical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences and Medical Technology
American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification
One year ofclinical experience
Physical Requirements:
This position involves turning, stooping, bending, stretching, walking and standing.
The average amount of lifting is 10 pounds with occasional carrying of objects up to 20 pounds.
Sitting for short periods of time, the ability to file, move records, laboratory supplies, and equipment are also required physical duties.
Communication by means of the spoken, written and typed word is required.
Work requires finger dexterity and eye hand coordination to operate a computer keyboard at a moderate skill level.
Mental Demands: Ability to work at a fast pace and to prioritize multiple assignments/projects and respond to numerous requests; ability to resolve conflicts among staff and to work collaboratively with department director, physicians and other members of the healthcare team; ability to ensure operational efficiency; ability to problem solve and make decisions; ability to exercise self-control and tolerate stress when dealing with multiple requests and/or conflicting demands from multiple customers.
