Pre-Contract, Bids & Risk
- Lead commercial reviews of tender documents; identify and articulate risks, opportunities, and key commercial positions.
- Lead or support selected contract negotiations with clients, including bespoke and project-specific agreements.
- Coordinate commercial inputs with finance, legal, HR, insurance, tax, and risk management; support submissions to the Asia Risk Committee.
- Undertake contract/commercial risk assessments and devise mitigation strategies for competitive and compliant bids.
Post-Contract Delivery, Variations & Claims
- Establish and enforce rigorous change control; lead end-to-end management of variations, from scope identification to valuation and settlement.
- Conduct forensic analysis of project documentation, schedules, and records to support entitlement and quantum for claims and dispute resolution.
- Prepare and evaluate claims; negotiate claim settlements on AECOM’s behalf to achieve commercially sound outcomes.
- Interpret and communicate contract scope, clarifying what constitutes additional work arising from design changes, new requirements, or client-driven developments.
- Support project teams in negotiating appropriate terms for subcontracts and subconsultant services.
Governance, Compliance & Continuous Improvement
- Reinforce corporate governance on commercial matters and alignment with AECOM’s global policies and processes (including public sector projects).
- Maintain a precautionary professional indemnity claims/risk log and ensure proactive management.
- Conduct “after action” reviews for bids and projects (successful and unsuccessful) to capture lessons learned and embed continuous improvement.
- Standardize commercial models and processes; create tools and guidance for project commercial management.
- Promote commercial awareness; coach and develop Project Directors and Project Managers.
Stakeholder & Client Engagement
- Prepare high-quality client-facing correspondence, briefing papers, presentations, and claim submissions.
- Engage confidently with client representatives at director level, including government agencies.
- Liaise with client commercial staff and represent AECOM in relevant industry forums; support business development initiatives.
