The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system’s 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.
The Office of Energy and Resource Recovery Programs (Energy Office) is charged with plotting the course for DEP to meet its energy and carbon neutrality goals, as well as maximizing resource recovery. The Energy Office also provides energy and performance tracking, program assessment, scientific research, emergency planning and internal auditing services to DEP's operating bureaus.
The Deputy Director of Strategy Implementation will report directly to the Director of the Energy Office to advance critical energy efficiency and renewable generation projects and programs. This role will:
1. Lead the Implementation and Expansion of DEP’s Co-Digestion and RNG Programs.
2. Design and implement a circular economy program focused on achieving DEP’s energy and carbon neutrality goals.
3. Lead the development and execution of wastewater heat recovery initiatives
4. Drive stakeholder engagement, compliance, and funding strategies by building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including city agencies, private sector partners, and community groups.
5. Develop and implement a strategic plan for charging infrastructure deployment in collaboration with DEP Fleet Services and DCAS.
6. Supervise and mentor Staff by providing leadership, supervision, and mentorship to staff within the strategy implementation sub-directorate and mentor staff by providing leadership.
