Under the general direction of the Fire Alarm Unit Leader, the responsibilities of the Fire Alarm Technician include but are not limited to the following:
- Independently perform inspection, service, repairs, installation, and programming of commercial fire alarm systems.
- Independently perform troubleshooting and fault diagnostics of fire alarm devices, wiring, and software.
- May supervise and evaluate the work of subordinate personnel and assist in training staff members.
- Provide field oversight and QA/QC review of contractor work and verify compliance with applicable Codes and Standards. Witnesses and conducts inspections and tests to verify that installations and repairs are completed in a workmanlike manner and follow good engineering practices.
- Set priorities, schedules and coordinates work by contractors and in-house personnel. Regularly visits and inspects sites.
- May issue change orders to original specifications to accommodate changing field conditions or to correct specification errors or omissions; upon Supervisory approval of recommendations, prepares change orders.
