This is a rare opportunity to lead the transformation of pediatric neuroscience across South Carolina and help build one of the premier pediatric neuroscience programs in the Southeast.

The current need/reasons for recruiting are:

• MUSC is seeking a visionary Division Chief of Pediatric Neurology who can rebuild, recruit, innovate, and establish MUSC as the referral destination for children with neurologic disease throughout South Carolina and the Southeast.
• The Department of Pediatrics, MUSC Children’s Health, and the College of Medicine have made a substantial long-term commitment to growth, including approved strategic expansion to 13 pediatric neurologist faculty positions and six advanced practice provider positions.
• The Division is undergoing strategic rebuilding following several anticipated and unanticipated faculty departures, creating an exceptional opportunity for the next Chief to recruit a new generation of faculty and shape the future of pediatric neuroscience across the state.
• The next Chief will partner closely with Department, Hospital, and College leadership to expand clinical programs, strengthen education and research, improve statewide access, and advance a multidisciplinary pediatric neuroscience strategy.

MUSC Children’s Health

• MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital is a 250-bed hospital in downtown Charleston and part of MUSC Children’s Health.
• MUSC Children’s Health provides pediatric expertise across more than 26 specialty areas and delivers care through the pediatric hospital and multiple neighborhood locations throughout the Lowcountry.
• As a Level 1 Trauma Center, the pediatric emergency department specializes in emergency care for serious injury or illness, supported by collaboration with pediatricians throughout the community.
• MUSC Children’s Health is a major pediatric clinical research center through the Charles P. Darby Research Institute, supporting translation of laboratory advances to bedside, development of new technologies, and clinical trials.

MUSC Pediatric Neurology

The Division of Pediatric Neurology provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services for children with neurological disorders, including epilepsy, cerebral palsy, headaches, movement disorders, and other complex conditions. The program is multidisciplinary and includes pediatric neurologists, neurosurgeons, nurses, therapists, advanced practice providers, and other neuroscience partners.

The Division also supports an ACGME-accredited Child Neurology Residency Program that combines pediatric and neurology training and creates an important pipeline for future academic faculty recruitment.

MUSC is undertaking a comprehensive reinvestment in Pediatric Neurology through active faculty recruitment, advanced practice provider expansion, PRN coverage, innovative remote EEG partnerships, and a national search for visionary leadership. The Division Chief will have the opportunity to lead this strategic rebuilding effort with strong executive support for growth.

• Recruit outstanding faculty: Build a high-performing faculty group across general pediatric neurology and key subspecialty areas.
• Expand epilepsy and inpatient neurology: Strengthen the clinical platform and ensure access to timely, high-quality care for children with neurologic disease.
• Develop priority programs: Advance neurocritical care, movement disorders, neuromuscular medicine, headache, neurodevelopment, fetal neurology, and other areas aligned with institutional need.
• Strengthen education and mentorship: Support the Child Neurology Residency Program and mentor trainees, junior faculty, and emerging leaders.

MUSC’s long-term vision includes the development of a multidisciplinary Pediatric Neuroscience Institute integrating Pediatric Neurology, Neurosurgery, Neuropsychology, Developmental Pediatrics, PM&R, Epilepsy, Stroke, Neurocritical Care, Neuromuscular Medicine, Movement Disorders, Headache, Neurodevelopment, and Fetal Neurology.
