We are seeking a hands-on, results-oriented Prototyping Specialist to support our engineering team by manufacturing prototype components, improving fabrication processes, and advancing our prototyping capabilities. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving technical challenges, working with a variety of manufacturing technologies, and contributing directly to product innovation. You will be supporting the prototype shop quality management system by developing work instructions, maintaining documentation, participating in audits, and ensuring compliance with established procedures.
Responsibilities
- Manufacture prototype components to support new product development and engineering validation activities.
- Program, set up, and operate 3-axis CNC milling equipment to produce precision parts.
- Perform post-processing, inspections, and quality verification of machined components.
- Fabricate non-CNC components using manual machining equipment (mills and lathes), metal cutting and forming equipment, woodworking tools, welding, brazing, fiberglass layup and other fabrication methods.
- Produce prototype components using FDM and SLA 3D printing technologies, including post-processing and finishing.
- Assemble fabricated components into functional prototype assemblies.
- Collaborate closely with engineers to modify designs and develop manufacturable prototype solutions.
- Recommend improvements to fabrication methods, material selection, and component designs to improve manufacturability, quality, and build efficiency.
- Estimate project timelines, prioritize work, and communicate project status to stakeholders.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient prototype shop environment.
- Perform preventive maintenance and routine calibration of CNC equipment and shop tools.
- Monitor inventory levels of materials, tooling, and shop supplies and coordinate replenishment as needed.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities that enhance safety, efficiency, quality, and cost effectiveness.

- Evaluate and implement advanced CNC programming strategies, tooling, and machining technologies.
- Research and assess emerging additive manufacturing technologies, materials, and fabrication methods.
