As a Painter/Loader, you will carefully handle various steel products and parts as they progress through fabrication and apply protective coatings to steel structures to prevent corrosion on large beam structures before steel pieces are shipped to erection sites. The painter/ loader will also assist in loading, unloading, packing, and unpacking as they are delivered or prepped for delivery.
Minimum Starting Salary: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour, depending on experience.
Nights: Monday - Thursday 4:30pm to 3:00am - Plus a $2.00 shift differential
Essential Functions:
- Proper set-up of painting equipment, including preparing parts for proper application
- Apply primers to the manufacturer's specifications
- Inspect spray guns and replace worn parts
- Perform color changes, reclaims, and spray to waste
- Perform all housekeeping duties
- Dispose of excess materials within their proper areas
- Move material using forklifts and overhead cranes
- Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge and ability to distinguish different types of materials
- Knowledge of proper setup of painting equipment
- Knowledge of proper use of an airless and conventional sprayer
- Knowledge of SSPC
- Ability to read and understand blueprints
- Ability to operate forklift, overhead crane, and tractor-trailer
- Ability to apply concepts of introductory algebra and geometry to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percent, area, circumference, and volume
- Ability to troubleshoot spray booths for problems
- Ability to mix, thin, and apply Alkyds, Latex, Zinc Rich, Epoxies (to include Ultra High Solids), and Urethane coatings
