About the Internship Program
Our interns are embedded directly into Democracy Docket’s teams, where they gain hands-on, professional experience and contribute to meaningful projects. Interns also receive mentorship, regular feedback, and professional development opportunities to support their career growth.
Democracy Docket's Subscriptions & Product team is looking for a creative fall intern with a strong eye for design. You'll work closely with our news and product teams to create editorial illustrations, infographics, and branded assets that bring our journalism to life.
Responsibilites
- Take briefs from the news team to design editorial illustrations and infographics
- Support the social team with creating and updating templates and one-off graphics (if applicable)
- Support the S&P team with creating and updating email templates and landing pages (if applicable)
- Help document and operationalize brand guidelines
Qualifications
We’re looking for students who are:
- Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student in graphic design, visual communications, or a related field
- Proficiency in design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, or Canva
- Strong portfolio demonstrating editorial, digital, or brand design work
- Interest in democracy, voting rights, news/media, and/or election law
Program Benefits
- $20/hour compensation
- Flexible work schedule (15–20 hours/week)
- Located in or able to commute to Jersey City on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday weekly
- Direct mentorship and regular 1:1 check-ins with a staff host
- Access to Democracy Docket programming, staff events, and professional development opportunities
- Hands-on experience contributing to a national media platform
