About the Role
The Practice Lead – Consulting is a senior leader within Datacom’s Data & Analytics practice, responsible for defining, guiding and delivering high‑value consulting engagements for our customers. You will shape the capability and commercial strategy of the practice, lead senior customer engagements, and ensure delivery excellence across projects. You will balance hands‑on delivery with people leadership, partner management, and business development to grow a high‑performing Data & Analytics consulting practice.
What You’ll Do
- Team leadership and capability growth: Build and lead a high‑performing data & analytics consulting practice; day‑to‑day line management; recruit and develop talent; define career paths and training plans.
- Technical and delivery leadership: Provide expert guidance on cloud data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Microsoft, Databricks), data engineering methodologies, data governance and end‑to‑end delivery across the lifecycle.
- Sales, pre‑sales and business development: Articulate and evangelise the Modern Data Platform and data governance value proposition; collaborate with internal Sales, Service and Marketing; assist in drafting commercial engagements and proposals.
- Strategic direction and growth: Define and execute a growth strategy for Modern Data services across Wellington and wider markets; shape capability plans and roadmaps aligned to client needs.
- Commercial and financial management: Create and manage the practice budget; monitor utilization, invoicing and reporting; manage risk and profitability of engagements.
- Partner engagement: Lead strategic planning around opportunities and product roadmaps; work with vendor partners to identify and present new opportunities.
- Practice governance and quality: Establish and maintain governance practices, standards and playbooks; monitor delivery performance against metrics; drive continuous improvement.
- People development and culture: Mentor and develop staff; foster a positive, inclusive and high‑performing team culture; drive recruitment and capability uplift.
- Cross‑functional collaboration: Organise and lead cross‑functional project teams; ensure alignment between client priorities and Datacom capabilities; act as a trusted advisor to clients and internal stakeholders.
What you’ll bring
- 10+ years of broad Data & Analytics experience; 5+ years in a Professional Services or supplier environment; proven ability to lead a data practice, people and teams.
- Deep technical and business acumen across data platforms (Snowflake, Microsoft Azure, Databricks), with hands‑on delivery experience.
- Strong sales, pre‑sales and commercial capabilities; demonstrated experience working with Sales teams to identify and generate opportunities, craft proposals, and position offerings.
- Excellent stakeholder management and relationship building, with the ability to influence executives and senior customers.
- Solid financial and commercial discipline: budget management, cost estimation, utilization, and risk management.
- Change leadership and people skills: experience delivering governance, process and organizational change in complex environments.
- A collaborative, pragmatic mindset with experience working in multi-disciplinary teams and cross‑functional delivery.
