Position: STEEL DESIGN & ESTIMATOR (Structural Detailer / Construction Estimator / Quantity Surveyor – Steel Projects)
Salary range: up to Php 90,000 Philippine Peso (The final amount will be at the the client discretion basing on the candidate’s skills and experience.)
Working Hours: Monday to Friday following 10am-7pm NZDT (6am-3pm Philippine Standard Time)
Work set-up: 100% Remote work (Independent Contractor Agreement)
Holidays: New Zealand Public Holidays

OVERVIEW
A growing international construction company specializing in steel-framed buildings, sheds, and structural systems is seeking a Steel Design & Estimator to support project delivery from design through to construction readiness. This role combines technical detailing, material take-offs, estimating, and coordination, working closely with engineers, project managers, and suppliers in a fast-paced, quality-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Plan Review & Material Take-Offs
- Interpret architectural and structural drawings
- Prepare accurate material take-offs and quantity estimates
- Quantify steel framing, structural members, cladding, roofing, and fixings
- Identify discrepancies, missing details, or scope gaps
- Ensure use of the latest drawing revisions at all times
2. Steel Detailing (Light Gauge / Cold-Formed)
- Create detailed framing layouts, shop drawings, and schedules
- Produce cutting lists, connection details, and installation references
- Ensure outputs are accurate, buildable, and aligned with project requirements
- Revise drawings based on feedback from engineers and stakeholders
3. Estimating & Supplier Quote Review
- Coordinate and review supplier quotations (e.g., doors, windows, cladding, roofing)
- Validate quotes against drawings, specifications, and quantities
- Identify discrepancies in scope, pricing, and assumptions
- Prepare comparison summaries for internal evaluation
4. Excel-Based Pricing Support
- Input quantities into estimating and pricing templates
- Maintain accuracy of formulas, cost inputs, and version control
- Flag inconsistencies or missing pricing components
- Ensure alignment between drawings, supplier quotes, and estimates
5. Documentation & Consent Coordination
- Support preparation and tracking of project documentation and submissions
- Maintain checklists and monitor outstanding requirements (e.g., RFIs)
- Coordinate documents with engineers, draftspeople, and suppliers
- Ensure completeness and accuracy of submission packages
6. Stakeholder Coordination
- Communicate with engineers, suppliers, and internal teams
- Raise technical queries and follow through to resolution
- Maintain clear, professional written communication at all times
7. CRM & Project Record Management
- Update and maintain project data in CRM systems
- Record project progress, supplier responses, and key updates
- Ensure data accuracy and proper documentation tracking
Quality Expectations
- Maintain a high level of accuracy with zero preventable errors
- Carefully check all outputs including quantities, drawings, and pricing inputs
- Clearly document assumptions, exclusions, and uncertainties
- Proactively raise issues and avoid making unsupported assumptions
Requirements
Essential
- Experience in steel detailing, structural drafting, or construction estimating
- Strong ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings
- Experience with material take-offs / quantity surveying
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (formulas, validation, templates)
- Experience with CAD/BIM or steel detailing software
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Good written English communication
- Ability to work remotely with international teams
Highly Desirable
- Experience in steel buildings, sheds, warehouses, or industrial structures
- Background in light gauge / cold-formed steel systems
- Experience with tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, Tekla, FrameCAD, or similar
- Familiarity with supplier quote comparisons and construction workflows
- Experience with CRM or project/document management systems
Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Engineering, Architecture, Drafting, Construction Management, or related field (preferred)
- Or equivalent hands-on experience in steel construction, detailing, or estimating
