ABOUT THE COMPANY:
The client specializes in supporting self-employed borrowers through low-doc lending solutions. With extensive experience in non-standard and complex loan scenarios, we have developed deep expertise in this niche, allowing us to provide tailored, high-quality guidance to clients with unique financial situations.
Many of the clients we work with own multiple properties and require lending solutions that accommodate more complex financial structures. Our understanding of these specialized needs enables us to deliver effective strategies, streamlined processes, and exceptional service for borrowers who require flexible, expert-driven loan solutions.
OVERVIEW:
We are seeking a Senior Credit Manager to lead a high-performing credit unit and serve as the final technical authority on complex "grey area" lending scenarios. In this role, you will be the primary sounding board for a senior-level underwriting team, providing expert guidance on million-dollar loan structures that fall outside traditional banking criteria. This is a role for a technical master who "walks the talk" and possesses the lender-side seniority to command respect from seasoned credit professionals.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Technical Decision Making: Act as the ultimate authority for complex self-employed scenarios, navigating "grey areas" and providing definitive quotes where standard policy may be ambiguous.
- Senior Leadership: Manage a high-caliber team, including a Senior Underwriter and a Credit Analyst. Provide the technical mentorship and final sign-off for their most complex files.
- Credit Oversight: Oversee all credit lodgements to ensure they meet the highest standards of accuracy and "right first time" approval rates.
- Lender Relationship Management: Liaise directly with BDMs and senior credit assessors at 2nd-tier Australian lenders to overturn declines and negotiate conditions.
- SLA Governance: Ensure the credit team maintains strict compliance with internal Service Level Agreements (SLAs), maintaining the firm's reputation for speed and reliability.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Lender Experience (Mandatory): Extensive experience (8+ years) working within an Australian 2nd-tier lender (e.g., Pepper, Liberty, La Trobe).
- Authority & DLA: Proven experience holding a high Delegated Lending Authority (DLA) and managing/leading a credit assessment team.
- Self-Employed Mastery: Expert ability to analyze complex financial structures, including company tax returns, trust distributions, and add-back scenarios.
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to look beyond the "box" to find viable lending pathways for high-net-worth borrowers.
NICE TO HAVE (not mandatory):
- Scenario Architect Skills: Previous experience in a "Credit Coach" or "Scenario Desk" role within a specialist lender, specifically handling complex commercial-to-residential crossovers.
- Advanced Accounting Knowledge: A deep understanding of corporate tax portals and the ability to reconcile complex inter-entity loan accounts.
