Variational is building a protocol that provides infrastructure for peer-to-peer trading, clearing, and settlement of perpetuals and generalized derivatives. The protocol enables safe and efficient bilateral trading across a wide range of instruments, including options, futures, perpetuals, exotics, and more. Multiple applications are being built on top of the protocol, including products for perpetuals trading and institutional-grade customizable OTC derivatives.
The company is backed by leading investors such as Bain Capital Crypto, Peak XV (formerly Sequoia India/Southeast Asia), Coinbase Ventures, Dragonfly, Hack VC, North Island Ventures, Caladan, Mirana Ventures, and Zoku Ventures, having raised over $50M. The team is currently ~15 people, predominantly engineers, and is planning to double or triple in size over the next two quarters.
This role is primarily frontend-focused within a fullstack scope. You will be responsible for building trading interfaces and product experiences across the company’s applications, working across the stack with a strong emphasis on frontend development.
The team has strong in-house design and product leadership, allowing engineers to focus on high-quality implementation. However, candidates with a design mindset are encouraged to contribute to UX decisions, especially at the senior level. This is a small, high-ownership environment where you will be expected to own and deliver frontend systems end-to-end, rather than working on isolated features within a large, mature codebase.
Responsibilities include:
Building and owning frontend trading interfaces using TypeScript and Svelte (or equivalent modern frameworks)
Implementing fullstack features, including backend API development in Rust, Go, or Python
Optimizing performance across frontend and backend (CDNs, SSR, real-time data systems)
Owning frontend security, including secure coding practices, XSS/CSRF prevention, and deployment/DNS configuration
Implementing fullstack security measures such as SQL injection prevention, JWT authentication, and WAF configuration
Maintaining CI/CD pipelines, containerized deployments, and end-to-end test automation
