The Section Geologist is responsible for providing a specialist Geological service to the mine with regards to a value driven exploitation of ore reserves and allowing responsible resource management. Fixed Term Contract
- Maintaining and developing geological standards to support the achievement of optimum grade and enable effective mine planning, designs and ore extraction.
- Advise and ensure optimized exploitation of the ore-body.
- Contribute to the effectiveness of the Geology and MRM team.
- Ensuring effective geological data collection through underground mapping, borehole drilling and channel sampling, and conducting geological data interpretation
- Updating and maintaining electronic geological plans and sections
- Implementing effective controls and procedures relating to grade control (stope widths reporting and underground sampling)
- Supervising underground geology drilling programme.
- Managing optimum exposure of PGE mineralization in development and stope faces grades/grade control (stope widths reporting and underground sampling)
- Advising Management / provide recommendations.
- Investigating reasons for excessive dilution or ore loss.
- Managing geology drilling and sampling programme
- Managing the underground channel sampling programme
- Ensuring compliance with borehole and channel sampling QAQC requirements
- Planning monthly Geology requirements and priorities
- Compiling ad hoc underground mapping reports, monthly geology departmental reports and ad hoc geology technical reports
- Advise ore body related risks for effective mine design and planning.
- Ensuring optimization of available ore reserves
- Determining geological losses in alignment with Group Standard
- Compiles the structural model of his/her area of responsibility.
- Recommending negotiation of geological disturbances
- Avoidance of White areas through proactive planning participation.
- Supporting training and development requirements of relevant staff
- Assist with the induction of new employees
- Validate all acquired data and derived results
- Advice to mining and other MRM departments on geology issues, related complexities and problems
- Budgeting and cost control
- Ensure compliance to standard operating procedures for mapping, drilling, and sampling coverage to enable safe and profitable mining activities.
- Identifying potential and problematic ore reserves (incl. White Area management)
- Complying with Safety Health and environmental (SHE) requirements
