Job Summary
Support the Sr. Manager of Patient Safety, Risk at Salem Hospital in coordinating hospital-wide patient safety initiatives and daily work at Salem Hospital. Contributes to advancing Informed High Reliability concepts and requires frequent collaboration with Directors, Managers, hospital leadership, and staff within the Department of Quality. Assist in coordinating projects across academic and operational departments and support other patient safety staff members as needed.
Because this role is in an environment of active change management, the specialist will need to demonstrate flexibility and open-mindedness, as the contours of this position will evolve over time

Essential Functions
- Collaborate with Department Chairs and Patient Care Services to facilitate the internal medical peer review process and assist in analyzing serious patient concerns and adverse events.
- Participate in the analysis of adverse events and serious patient concerns and assist in preparation for regulatory or accreditation agency visits. Maintain confidentiality of peer review, performance improvement, and risk management information.
- Help recommend corrective and preventive actions to reduce risk and support interventions in collaboration with CRICO and hospital-based improvement teams.
- Assist in the review and development of hospital policies related to patient safety.
- Help identify barriers to implementing the improvement plan and collaborate with hospital leaders to develop strategies to overcome them.
- Provide education and support to nurses, physicians, and committees on patient safety topics, including non-punitive reporting and error prevention.
- Contribute to the orientation and ongoing training of department staff as directed.
- Assist in preparing presentations for committees and clinical groups under the guidance of the Patient Safety Manager and clinical leaders.
- Must be available to work in the case of a hospital-declared emergency. Must be available to assist during regulatory agency reviews.
Education
Bachelor's Degree Nursing, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, or Related Field of Study required
Experience
- Experience with computer and Internet 1-2 years required
- Healthcare experience with clinical background 1-2 years preferred
- Experience working in a large healthcare organization 1-2 years preferred

- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Project management skills.
- Advanced knowledge of MS Office products is essential for success in this position (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access).
