The Khoshkhoo lab at Brigham and Women’s Hospital is looking for a full-time highly motivated, enthusiastic, and detail-oriented laboratory research assistant for a minimum 2-year commitment to study the genetic determinants of human neurological diseases with a special focus on epilepsy. The scope of our research activities broadly includes working with human brain tissue, cell culture experiments, and mouse modeling work. There will be opportunities for independent projects with the expectation that the RA will contribute to peer-reviewed publications. The RA will be directly supervised and reports to Dr. Sattar Khoshkhoo. Only candidates who plan on pursuing PhD or MD/PhD degrees will be considered.
The position provides assistance to the Principal Investigator and Study Team in coordinating research activities that may include conducting a variety of routine experiments with established methodologies, data collection and management, and other research activities as assigned.
Candidates who are in the process of completing their bachelor's degree have a grace period of six months from their hire date (up to 1 year if starting per diem) to provide degree equivalency verification.

Essential Functions
-Maintains human and mouse primary and immortalized cell lines and performs cell culture experiments including transfection, imaging, and multi-electrode array recordings.
-Participates in a range of experiments using human cell lines and mouse tissue including immunostaining, nuclear extraction, flow cytometry.
-Performs bacterial cloning experiments.
-Maintains mouse colony and assists with mouse surgeries including in utero electroporation and EEG implantation.
-Contributes to general lab maintenance including cleaning, organization, maintaining inventory, and ordering supplies.
-Helps with basic data analysis
-Assists on drafting study guidelines and protocols.
-Consents potential study patients and coordinates collection of tissue from the operating room.
-Prepares and submits all IRB documents; applications, amendments, annual reviews and serious adverse events.
-Maintains all study regulatory documents.
-Provides general research administrative support and trains other staff.
-Responsible for data collection, management, manipulation, analysis, and reporting.
-Study cohort management.
-Outreach communication with subjects, conducting mailings, follow-up on mailings, and obtaining necessary documents.
-Provides assistance on work related to epidemiological studies and other population-based research.
