Surgical Technologist – Operating Room

The Surgical Technologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital plays a vital role in the operating room by preparing and maintaining the surgical environment and assisting with the peri-operative care of patients. Surgical Techs work closely with surgeons, nurses, and the broader care team to support safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical procedures.

Education and Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required, along with completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist Program (*see substitution information below).
- Current Surgical Technologist Certification is required within one year from the date of graduation from a surgical technologist program OR candidates must meet one of the following criteria:
- Have been employed as a surgical technologist in a surgical facility on or before July 1, 2013
- Have successfully completed a surgical technology training program through the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, or the United States Public Health Service
- Requirements are in accordance with Massachusetts Senate Bill 2058 (December 2012)
- Graduates who have not yet obtained certification will have one year from the date of graduation to become certified.
- Prefer at least 1 year of Surgical Technology experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree preferred
- 1 to 2 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist in an acute care setting preferred
- Committee participation and leadership experience preferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred
