THE ROLE
The Production Manager oversees the technical planning and execution of performances and events at Tacoma City Theaters, including lighting, audio, video, rigging, staging, labor, and back of house operations. This role coordinates production logistics, communicates with internal and external stakeholders, and ensures events are delivered safely, efficiently, and at a high standard for touring productions, Resident Arts Organizations, and rental clients. This position requires strong technical knowledge, clear communication, sound judgment, and a commitment to service excellence.
ESSENTIAL DUTES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Communicate with clients, artist management, and internal staff to gather technical requirements, develop production plans, fulfill riders, conduct advances, create diagrams, schedule labor calls, process equipment orders, and coordinate artist hospitality,
Serve as liaison between the facility and clients, artists, and artist management, ensuring compliance with ADA, NFPA life safety codes, OSHA guidelines, and Legends Global policies.
Schedule and supervise labor calls for local IATSE and contracted production crews.
Manage the Production Coordinator, and IATSE Stage Technicians.
Produce events while maintaining a high degree of public safety in line with all life safety codes.
Coordinate with the Event Manager, Marketing, Box Office, Operations, Finance, Front of House, and Security teams to align production needs and ensure smooth event execution.
Maintain and track departmental budgets and event-related expenditures; prepare event estimates and update client files as needed.
Prepare and submit stage employee union payroll; track and submit production vendor charges and maintain vendor relationships.
Ensure timely communication of production needs, schedule changes, risks, unresolved issues, or artist concerts to appropriate stakeholders.
Oversee maintenance, repairs, and preventative upkeep of sound, lighting, rigging, electrical, mechanical, and backstage systems.
Recommend capital improvements and design system upgrades.
Participate in securing the venue during daily operations, events, emergencies, and closures.
Maintain accurate event records and ensure consistency of associated documentation.
Serve as Manager on Duty as needed, providing general supervision during events.
Attend staff meetings and maintain strong, collaborative relationships across all departments.
Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages the Production Coordinator and the IATSE Local 15 Union Crew. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Legends Global’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding; disciplining employees in conjunction with Human Resources; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Ability to work with minimal supervision

Demonstrate knowledge of spreadsheets and word processing software and be willing to learn and use Event planning and production software

Ability to interact with all levels of staff including management and clients
Required to be subject to a background screening
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Strong knowledge of rigging, audio-visual, lighting systems, stage mechanics, and technical operations.
Ability to supervise and train staff in venue operations, maintenance, and equipment use.
Skilled in planning, organizing, and executing complex production needs for diverse clients and events.
Strong leadership, communication, and people skills; able to manage multiple priorities and adapt to frequent changes.
Proficiency with production estimates, budgets, preventive maintenance schedules, and technical specifications.
Ability to interpret stage plots, sketches, and general instructions.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and production-related software.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
4-year degree in Theater with technical emphasis or professional equivalence
3-year minimum experience working in a performing arts center, theater, or arena
Working knowledge of applicable OSHA, state and other work environment and safety regulations
Working knowledge of fire and public safety issues
Prior supervisory experience required
COMPENSATION
Base salary $80,170 and a generous benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, paid vacation, and 401k plan.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Location: Tacoma, WA on site at Pantages Theater, Rialto Theater, and Theatre on the Square. Office hours in office in Tacoma, WA.
