PRIVATE EQUITY DATA GOVERNANCE – MANAGER
The successful candidate will join Bain Capital’s Private Equity Data Governance function as a Manager, reporting to the Private Equity Data Governance Lead within the CFO organization. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and sustaining a comprehensive suite of data governance capabilities, including data quality management, metadata and catalog governance, regulatory and audit-ready data controls, AI-readiness frameworks, and health metrics reporting. Grounded in established industry frameworks and enterprise-aligned standards, these capabilities enable accurate, transparent, and scalable data infrastructure across a large and complex investment platform. This role partners across enterprise-aligned functions including Finance, Analytics, Investment Operations, Investor Relations, Compliance and Information Technology. This is a high-impact role for a practitioner who can operate with technical rigor and strategic depth across a sophisticated, multi-strategy investment platform.
Key responsibilities are to:
· Develop and maintain enterprise-aligned data governance frameworks, including data quality standards, metadata and catalog governance, and regulatory and audit-ready data controls, in alignment with broader organizational governance programs
· Support the definition and governance of data architecture across the private equity platform, partnering with key business stakeholders to implement data strategies across source systems (including deal pipeline, accounting, portfolio monitoring, valuation models) and data lake access layers
· Drive data quality management and issue resolution, building reasonability tests and automated alerts, root-causing data issues, and designing remediation controls and process redesigns to prevent recurrence
· Administer and advance the data catalog and metadata framework, documenting key data terms, processes, and protocols to create transparency, foster appropriate data use, and support data lineage from collection through end-user reporting
· Drive AI-readiness and agentic governance design, identifying opportunities to deploy AI-assisted workflows, automated monitoring, and large language model-enabled data operations to modernize how governance is implemented and maintained at scale
· Enable automated reporting and visualization, ensuring data architecture supports accurate, flexible reporting through tools such as Power BI and approved AI/reporting tools across investor and internal management reporting
· Develop and track data health KPIs and metrics, establishing governance scorecards that measure data quality, process compliance, and reporting accuracy across the private equity platform
· Serve as a cross-functional governance partner to Investment and Trade Operations, Finance, Data Analytics & Reporting, Portfolio Management, Investor Relations, and Information Technology, collaborating across peer data governance programs within the organization
The primary measures of success in this role are:
· Reduction in data friction across the private equity platform, including improvements in data availability, timing, and accessibility for downstream reporting and analytics
· Measurable progress in process automation and the elimination of manual, error-prone workflows across data production and reporting cycles
· Tangible adoption of AI tools and agentic workflows within governance processes, with demonstrated efficiency gains
QUALIFICATIONS
· Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to build credibility and collaborate across functions including Finance, Operations, Investment Management, and Technology
· Strong process discipline, with the ability to design new processes and improve existing ones
· A self-starter with a deadline-driven mindset and the ability to manage competing priorities in a data-intensive, fast-moving investment environment
· A strong understanding of private equity as an asset class is a plus
· Proven experience in a data governance capacity, ideally within asset management or financial services; candidates with a primary background in data governance are strongly preferred over those coming from generalist Finance or Operations roles
· Curiosity and comfort with AI-assisted development, including experimentation with AI coding tools and agentic workflow design; hands-on exploration of these tools, even outside formal work contexts, is a strong plus
· 8+ years of experience in asset management or a closely related field, with meaningful tenure in data governance, data management, or a related discipline
