Sr Consultant, Actuarial ā Retirement Solutions Financial Reporting- REMOTE
Are you an experienced actuary who enjoys complex annuity valuation, financial reporting, and solving thorny modeling problems? Join our Retirement Solutions Financial Reporting team and help shape how we measure and manage results across a diversegroupof retirement products.
Key Responsibilities
Support quarterly GAAP and statutory valuation, financial reporting, and forecasting for Retirement Solutions products (e.g.,recordkeeping,fixed and indexed annuities, stable valueproducts, in-plan income guarantees, pension risk transfer).
Maintain and enhance GGY AXISmodels and relatedtoolsensuring methodsremainrobust, efficient, and well-controlled.
Partner with Pricing, Controllership, and Valuation to support transactions (e.g., reinsurance, block transfers) and strategic projects that improve capital efficiency and reduce earnings volatility.
Collaborate with peers and leaders toidentifyand implement process and model improvements that enhance transparency, consistency, and speed-to-decision.
WhatWeāreLooking For
Must-have skills
Strong background in retirementor annuityproducts(GAAP and/or statutory), with experience supporting quarterly closes and/or forecasting.
Hands-on experience with at least one major actuarial modeling platform (e.g., GGY AXIS, MG-ALFA) and comfort working with complex projection models.
Solid data and tooling skills (e.g., SQL, Excel/VBA) with the ability to trace results from model output through to the ledger and financial statements.
Proven ability to communicate complex actuarial concepts to non-actuarial partners (finance, controllership, business leadership).
Demonstrated ownership mindset, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities around key reporting deadlines.
ASA Required; FSA or progress towards FSA highly preferred.
Preferred skills
Experience with LDTI and/or recent reservemethodologychanges for annuity business.
Familiarity with derivative/hedging and FAS 133 concepts for guaranteed products.
Priorexposure to reinsurance structures and their impact on valuation and earnings.
Progress toward FSA with relevant life/annuity exams; ASArequired-FSAis a plus.

Key Responsibilities:Ā
Compiles, categorizes, and analyzes sophisticated data sets.
Builds complicated testing tools and conducts detailed analysis of product calculations.
Constructs, maintains, and performs Actuarial, Projection, and Valuation Models.
Builds financial reporting tools and completes analysis.
Prices and implements products.
Conducts complicated risk analysis.
Establishes reserves and other valuation items under multiple accounting regimes (statutory, GAAP, and tax) for products.
Performs reinsurance analysis and pricing.
Crafts effective communication strategies and recommendations to leadership. Develops supporting documentation.
Leads cross functional peer reviews to increase collaboration, ensure quality work, and drive innovation.
Builds business relationships and leads cross functional communication with team members, customers, and business partners.
Leads onboarding and training for new associates on standard work processes. Assists in creating new training materials.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships:Ā Reports to an Actuarial, Analytics, or Risk Management leader.
Typical Skills and Experiences:Ā
Education:Ā Undergraduate degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or similar background requiring modeling, programming, or quantitative analysis.
License/Certification/Designation: Generally attained ASA and is actively enrolled in the Actuarial Development Program; working towards FSA or recently attained FSA. PLEASE REFER TO THE NATIONWIDE LIFE INSURANCE COMPANY ACTUARIAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
Experience:Ā Typically, four to seven years of actuarial experience.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:Ā Proven knowledge of actuarial business functions, statistical methods of analysis, actuarial models, actuarial software and databases. Proficient in Microsoft Office products (including VBA within Access and Excel), analytical software (such as tableau) and programming languages. Should have basic competencies including: command skills, strategic agility, delegation, motivating others, business perspective, and accounting.
