Overview
Defines and drives enterprise-scale digital solutions by designing end-to-end architectures, guiding engineering teams through implementation, and influencing the overall technical strategy across the organization.
This role can work remotely from anywhere in the continental USA.
Primary Responsibilities
- Architect end-to-end solutions balancing functional, non-functional (scalability, security, resilience, performance), and maintainability requirements.
- Lead architectural decisions across teams — establishing design patterns, reference architectures, and technical standards.
- Develop architectural maturity models and strategic roadmaps to guide teams from concept through production, including deployment and rollback strategies.
- Define integration strategies across platforms and third-party systems, ensuring interoperability.
- Establish engineering quality standards through review frameworks, test strategies, and resolution of complex technical issues.
- Maintain architectural documentation (solution blueprints, ADRs, architecture diagrams) while mentoring engineers.
- Partner with Product, Engineering, and UX to translate business objectives into technical roadmaps within agile methodologies.
- Lead production incident response, driving root-cause analysis and systemic improvements.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years in large-scale software development, with 3+ years in solution architecture or technical leadership.
- Strong proficiency in Java with architectural experience using Spring, Spring Boot, and RESTful APIs. 5+ years collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders (Product, Engineering, UX).
- Deep understanding of OOP, design patterns, distributed systems, concurrency control, and parallelism.
- 2+ years hands-on with cloud platforms (GCP, Azure, or AWS) including cloud-native patterns.
- Mastery of architectural decision-making — evaluating technology trade-offs and applying best practices.
- Experience with AI assistant tools such as Claude, Codex, Cursor, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Node.js/NestJS, GraphQL (schema design, federation), and modern UI frameworks (React, Angular, or Vue) including SSR/CSR.
- Hands-on experience with auth frameworks (OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, JWT) and API security patterns. Experience with microservices, event-driven architecture (Kafka), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and observability tooling.
- Knowledge of data architecture — relational/NoSQL databases, caching (Redis), and data modeling at scale.
- Understanding of regulatory compliance and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
- Openness to leveraging emerging technologies, including AI, to enhance architectural solutions.
- Pharmacy domain knowledge.
- Strong communication skills; experience mentoring engineers and driving outcomes across teams.
Education
Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience (HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience)
Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is:
$106,605.00 - $260,590.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
