Job Description
Primary Responsibilities
- Define and execute the technical vision, architecture, and multi-year roadmap for Ares Management’s Investment Operations technology platforms
- Lead, mentor, and develop high-performing software engineering teams; foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and accountability
- Oversee end-to-end delivery of engineering solutions, from ideation and architecture through development, testing, and production deployment
- Act as a hands-on engineering leader, contributing directly to solution design, code reviews, and complex technical problem-solving
- Partner with senior engineering and business stakeholders at Ares to align product strategy, technology investment, and delivery priorities
- Establish and enforce engineering best practices across software development, testing, security, and release management
- Manage relationships with external vendors, consultants, and data providers, including vendor selection, contract negotiation, and performance oversight
- Drive innovation by identifying, evaluating, and adopting emerging technologies that enhance efficiency, scalability, and data quality
- Influence outcomes across cross-functional teams, including Investment Teams, Operations, Controllers, Quants, Compliance, and Information Security
- Ensure platforms meet Ares’ standards for scalability, resiliency, security, and regulatory compliance
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline
- 10+ years of hands-on software engineering experience
- 4+ years of experience managing and leading engineering teams of 5–10+ members
- 5+ years of experience supporting Private Markets technology within asset management
Domain Expertise:
- Strong understanding of alternative investments, including private credit, private equity, real assets, and secondaries
- Demonstrated knowledge of the investment lifecycle, operational workflows, and data models supporting investment operations
Technical Skills:
- Strong programming experience in Java, Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, and SQL
- Solid foundation in object-oriented analysis and design principles
- Experience building modern, scalable, full-stack applications using:
- Frontend frameworks such as Angular or React
- Backend technologies including Java/Spring Boot, Node.js, and Python
- ORM and persistence frameworks such as JPA/Hibernate and MyBatis
- Experience with both relational and NoSQL data stores (e.g., PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Redis)
- Working knowledge of modern UI/UX best practices
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and source control platforms (GitHub, GitLab)
- Experience with event-driven and messaging platforms such as Kafka
- Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and modern IDE integrations
- Experience with containerization, orchestration, and infrastructure-as-code technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform)
- Understanding of cloud computing concepts and architectures (preferred)

Compensation
The anticipated base salary range for this position is listed below. Total compensation may also include a discretionary performance-based bonus. Note, the range takes into account a broad spectrum of qualifications, including, but not limited to, years of relevant work experience, education, and other relevant qualifications specific to the role.
