Job Description:
The Opportunity
We are looking for a Junior R&D Electrical Engineer to join our Global Multiâphysics Simulation Team within the Transformers business. In this role, you will support the development of advanced dryâtype and liquidâfilled distribution and traction transformers by performing circuitâlevel, electromagnetic, and multiâphysics simulations.
You will work in a global, crossâfunctional R&D environment with strong interaction with engineering, testing, and product development teams, contributing to a shiftâleft approach where simulations are used to predict product performance early in the development cycle and anticipate factory test results.
How youâll make an impact:
- Perform circuitâlevel, electromagnetic, and multiphysics simulations of all typical performance measures of dryâtype and liquidâfilled distribution and traction transformers, in accordance with relevant international standards (e.g. IEC, IEEE).
- Evaluate transformer performance parameters such as losses, impedance, leakage fields, shortâcircuit forces, inductances, and transient behavior using circuitâlevel and electromagnetic finite-element (FEM) simulations.
- Apply circuitâlevel, electromagnetic, and multiâphysics simulations to support a shiftâleft development strategy, aiming to predict the outcome of Factory Acceptance Tests early in the design phase and reduce design iterations, testing effort, and development risk for dryâtype and liquidâfilled distribution and traction transformers.
- Develop and maintain automation tools and simulation workflows for circuitâlevel, electromagnetic, and multiphysics simulations, explicitly focused on early design validation and FAT prediction.
- Develop new multiâphysics simulation methodologies by coupling circuitâlevel and electromagnetic models with: Structural mechanics simulations, Thermomechanical simulations, Acoustic simulations
- Support feasibility studies, development of new technical concepts, and simulationâbased assessment of new technologies and product variants related to dryâtype and liquidâfilled distribution and traction transformers.
- Contribute to the design and performance prediction of dryâtype and liquidâfilled distribution and traction transformers.
- Support and organize prototyping and testing activities to validate simulation models and new technologies.
- Support product and technology development projects, contributing to delivery in line with agreed scope, time, cost, and quality.
- Support the transfer of technology and knowâhow from R&D to Engineering by:, Writing design rules and technical guidelines, Preparing and delivering internal technical trainings, Collaborating closely with design tools and engineering teams
- Provide technical support to other departments (Engineering, Product Management, Marketing, Sales) when required.
Your background
- M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering.
- Initial professional experience in electrical engineering, preferably with exposure to transformer design, is an advantage.
- Strong theoretical foundation in circuit theory, electromagnetics, and transformer physics for dryâtype and liquidâfilled distribution and traction transformers.
- Preferred: knowledge of transformer performance prediction, including: Impedance and transient behavior, Leakage fields, Stray and noâload losses, Shortâcircuit forces, Mutual inductances and related parameters
- Preferred: experience with electromagnetic finite element analysis (FEA) using one or more tools such as: ANSYS Maxwell, COMSOL Multiphysics, Altair Flux, FEMM, other EM FEMâbased tools
- Preferred: experience or familiarity with circuitâlevel simulation tools, such as: LTspice, PSpice, Ansys TwinBuilder/Simplorer or equivalent circuit simulation environment
- Knowledge of at least one programming language:, Python, MATLAB, C#
- Exposure to or interest in electrical testing of dryâtype and liquidâfilled distribution and traction transformers is an advantage.
- Basic project management capabilities and willingness to take ownership of tasks.
- Actionâ and resultsâoriented mindset combined with strong analytical skills.
- Innovative spirit and motivation to apply simulationâdriven, âoutâofâtheâboxâ approaches.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
