TheDCC
The mission of Denver County Court is to administer justice fairly, efficiently, and effectively; provide excellentcustomerservice,andfosterapositiveenvironmentwhereemployeesenjoytheirwork.TheCity andCountyofDenverâsthirdbranchofgovernmentiscomprisedof19judges,4full-timemagistrates,and 300 staff members. Case types include state, civil, small claims, traffic, criminal, and other general sessions cases within the City and County of Denver. The Denver County Court proudly serves the community and continually seeks ways to incorporate procedural fairness and evidence-based practices.
TheDivision
The Probation Division supervises approximately 2,500 cases assigned to 39 Probation Officers. The Probation Department handles misdemeanor and city ordinance violations cases. Most of the cases referredtoCountyCourtProbationareforDUI(DrivingUndertheInfluence),DWAI(DrivingWhileAbility Impaired), DUID (Driving Under the Influence of Drugs) and Domestic Violence.
Units and programs in the Probation Division include:
- DUI/DWAIUnit:TheProbationOfficersassignedtothisunitsupervisefirst-timeDUI/DWAI offenses, repeat DUI offenses, and DUID offenses.
- DV/FV/Special Crimes Unit: The Probation Officers assigned to this unit supervise domesticviolenceoffenses,familyviolenceoffenses,childabuseoffenses,theft,and assault offenses.
- Sobriety Court: The Specialty Court was established in 2011 to address habitual DUI offenders.Offendersvoluntarilyagreetoparticipateinthisintensiveprogramatthetimeof sentencing to receive a lesser jail sentence. In this program, Sobriety Court probationers progress through phases as they accomplish goals set forth in their case plans and treatment plans
- Sex Offender Management Unit: The Probation Officers assigned to this unit receive specializedtrainingtosuperviseoffendersonprobationforsexoffensesandwithpast histories of sex offenses
- Recovery Treatment Court: The Specialty Court was implemented in 2026 to provide support in recovery for those struggling with substance misuse. In this program probationers progress through phases as they accomplish goals established through case plans and treatment plans
- Mental Health Unit: This is an intensive supervision unit for clients that have been diagnosedwithaseriousmentalhealthconditionthatsignificantlyimpactstheclientâs ability to comply with probation.

TheJob
Day-to-day,asaJudicialAssociate Iwiththeprobationteam,youcanexpect to:
- Beavaluedmemberofadynamicteamwheremutualtrust,collaboration,and accountability is critical to the teamâs success
- Provideexcellentservicetoallcustomersandclientsoftheprobationdepartmentand Denver County Court
- Performcourtspecific,technicalclericalofficesupportworkprocessingallincomingadult and juvenile probationers
- Conductcriminalhistorysearchesutilizingseveralcriminaljusticedatabases
- PrepareandsubmitlegaldocumentssuchasPre-SentenceInvestigation(PSIs)reports and motions to the court
- Interpret and explain regulations, policies, standards, and/or procedures to internal/externalcustomersbasedonextensiveknowledgeofaspecializedareawithina defined scope
- Approvesandrejectscaseinformationanddeterminesappropriateactionswithinadefined scope
- Review and evaluate forms, applications, computations, documents, and/or other informationtodetermineaccuracy,completeness,acceptability,orcompliancebasedon extensive knowledge of court policy, procedures, and legal practices
- Assistintheprocessingofclientsincludingphonecalls,dataentryintodatabases,report processing, intake paperwork and photos, filing motions and court documents, and supporting the overall life cycle on a case
- Maintaindetailedandconfidentialrecordsandactasliaisonbetweenclients,court personnel and probation officers
- High-volumeofficerequirestheabilitytoperformdailydutiestimelytomeetthebusiness needs of the department and the court
