The 4 North Medical/Surgical Unit at Indian River Hospital sees a diverse population, offering medical attention for GI distress, respiratory issues,seizuresand other symptoms.As an LPN on the team, you willassistfellow caregivers in providing exceptional, top-quality care to a diverse patient population. In this role, you can make a lasting difference in the lives of patients, all while enhancing your nursing skills through hands-on experience andnumerouseducational resources offered within the Cleveland Clinic system.
A caregiver in this position works days from6:45AM –7:15PM, with the ability to work 4 weekend shifts in a 6-week period.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Involve patient/family in the development of careplan.
Prioritize and perform direct care to patients.
Explain and document procedures and interventions.
Identifyand perform appropriately in emergent situations.
Assistmultidisciplinaryteam with all processes related to patient care.
Delegate responsibilities to staff based on patient needs and staff competencies.
Utilize and document patient safety restraints per hospital policy.
Perform all IV skills including starts according to unit policy.
Document medications on medication administrationrecord(MAR).
Monitor patient's response to medications and reports appropriately.
Report medication errors and adverse reactions per hospital policy.
Demonstrate knowledge concerning medications, including side effects.
Developplanbased on educational assessment.
Provide patients with discharge instructions/education andfacilitatesa safe discharge.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduate of an accredited Practical or Vocational Nursing Program
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)or American Red Cross
Current Florida licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
IV Therapy Certificate within three months of hire
Knowledge of infection control practices
Knowledge of quality improvement practices
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
One year experience in an acute care setting ORthreeyears of long-term careexperience
Physical Requirements:
Requires frequent walking from department to department; requires sitting at a workstation or desk; requires standing; work may include occasional pushing and/or pulling, lifting, and carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs., such as files, documents and computer printouts.
Work requires finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination to operate a computer keyboard at a moderate skill level.
Mental Demands: Ability to work at a fast pace and prioritize multiple assignments/projects and respond to numerous requests; ability to resolve conflicts among staff and to work collaboratively with department directors, physicians and other members of the healthcare team; ability to ensure operational efficiency; ability to problem-solve and make decisions; ability to exercise self-control and tolerate stress when dealing with multiple requests and/or conflicting demands from multiple customers.
Special Demands: Needs minimal sustained direction in assessing needs, directing staff and carrying out departmental and professional responsibilities.
Self-starting and self-motivating; working hours may exceed eight (8) hours per day and is based on what is needed to accomplish work at hand.
