TheWater UtilityDamage PreventionTechnicianassistswithmonitoring oversight fortheAurora WaterRawWaterInfrastructure Systems. This is a key support role inthe defenseofthe City of Aurora’sraw water transmission systems, ensuringthat projects affecting critical infrastructure are completedin accordance withcity standards, safety requirements, and applicable regulations.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Infrastructure Defense: Act as atechnicianin the Watch & Protect program, conducting driving inspections and "standby" observations to prevent unauthorized or unsafe work on the city’s raw water systems.
Compliance & Enforcement: Verify that all contractors have valid license agreements andlocateson-site before breaking ground.Authorized to halt work when safety requirements or permit conditions are not met.
Construction Oversight:Monitorin-progressutility crossingprojects, ensuring every phasecomplies withcity codes, project plans, and safety regulations.
Field Collaboration:Participateinsite walk-throughs with contractorsand provide real-time updates to supervisors to resolve issues before they escalate.
Accurate Reporting:Maintainmeticulous logs and digital files to track inspections, communication with other city departments, and project milestones.
Technical Support: Perform miscellaneous field tasks, including gathering site data and supporting special projects as needed tomaintainsystem integrity.
EmergencySupport:The employee must be able to workovertime andafter-hoursduring emergency situations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience thatdemonstratesrequired knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Education:
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
Experience:
At least one(1) year of experience in utility construction, excavation work, construction inspection, or construction observation
Knowledge:
Basic knowledge of water utility infrastructure, including pipelines, valves, and related facilities used in raw water transmission systems
Basic knowledge of construction practices and excavation activities associated with utility installation and maintenance
Basic knowledge of utility damage prevention practices and the purpose of state one-call/locatesystems (e.g., 811)
Basic knowledge of workplace safety practices related to construction sites and excavation activities
Basic knowledge of applicable city codes, standards, and procedures related to construction near municipal utility infrastructure
Basic knowledge of recordkeeping and documentation practices used in field inspections and monitoring activities
Familiarity with common construction terminology and equipment used in utility construction projects
Skills:
Skill inobservingconstruction activities andidentifyingconditions that may pose risk to underground or surface infrastructure
Skill inmaintainingaccuratefield notes, inspection logs, and electronic records
Skill in communicating clearly with contractors and city staff in field environments
