Works closely and collaboratively with Principal Investigator, project manager, research team, and other stakeholders to plan, direct, organize, and execute against project requirements; identifies and acquires necessary resources and coordinates efforts by all parties to ensure timely delivery of project outcomes in accordance with sponsoring source's expectations; manage day-to-day operations and activities for the FIT-AD SMART trial at Arizona State University Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation. This randomized clinical trial examines the effects of exercise on cognition in community-dwelling older adults with early Alzheimerās disease. The research study is funded by the National Institute on Aging of the National Institutes of Health.
Position Salary Range:Ā $48,600 - $60,000; depending on experience
Essential Duties:
Adhere to the study protocol and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to reach the study recruitment, enrollment, participant progression, and data collection milestones. The study coordinator collaborates with the research team members to ensure participant and study personnel safety, data collection completion and quality, and protocol and SOPs compliance.
Recruitment and enrollment
Develop, maintain and implement a variety of participant recruitment strategies to maintain a healthy pool of potentially eligible participants and to meet monthly enrollment target.
Conduct phone screen, in-person interview, medical clearance, exercise testing, and magnetic resonance imaging with potential participants.
Advance potential participants through screening steps timely for enrollment to prevent loss of interest by potential participants.
Track and monitor screen, enrollment, intervention delivery, and data collection progress of potential participants and enrolled participants.
Ensure the completeness and accuracy of data entry into the study REDCap database.
Coordination
Schedule or delegate to others to schedule all participantsā events such as different screening appointments to ensure timely responses to contacts by potential participants.
Coordinate participant payments, such as YMCA memberships, mileage reimbursement.
Monitor completeness and accuracy of all study data collections in REDCap to ensure timely and efficient retrieval of data for reports, tracking, decision-making, and grant writing.
Coordinate meetings and generate meeting minutes and reports such as progress reports, protocol deviation reports.
Intervention delivery
Assess intervention session prescription accuracy.
Transport participants to exercise facilities, as needed.
Provide individualized exercise training to study participants according to the session prescription.
Monitor and assess participantās exerciser responses and adjust accordingly.
Assess and report protocol deviations and violations and adverse events.
Coordinate care in case of emergency and follow up.
Meticulously document all aspects of activity delivery in REDCap.
Communication
Communicate timely and clearly with the PI, project manager, investigator team, external partners study team members, and participants.
Maintain professional relationships with the study partners such as the exercise sites, Banner, senior centers, senior living, churches.
Leadership
Effectively delegate study-related work and hold the delegates accountable for the work delegated.
The study coordinator is ultimately responsible for the timely completion and quality of the work delegated.
Communicate with the PI and project manager timely.
Lead the team by example.
Desired Qualifications:
Bachelorās degree in clinical health sciences such as nursing, exercise science, or related field plus one year experience working in a research environment.
Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work independently, multitask, establish priorities, and problem-solve in real-time.
CPR certified or ability to become certified prior to hire.
Prior experiences in coordinating a research study.
Prior clinical experience working with older adults with cognitive impairment and dementia.
Proficiency with computer skills such as word processing and spread sheet programs (ex. Microsoft Office),
and REDCap.
Prior research experience including clinical trials research involving direct patient contact, recruitment,
scheduling study visits, and delivering treatments to participants.
Working Environment:
Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse.
Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk (moderate) distances to perform work.
Frequent physical demands may include stooping, bending, crawling under/around objects, reaching, lifting and pushing objects of varying weights up to 20 pounds (light).
May be required to perform tasks in the field within and/or across University campuses.
Will be required to travel (for events, between campuses).
In-person position only.
Position may involve shared offices/space.
