Mercy Hospitalâs 2M Med/Surg & Telemetry Unit provides care to diverse populations of surgical and medical/telemetry patients. Surgical patients in this unithave typicallyundergone surgeries such asa hysterectomy, bowel resection, vascular surgery, cosmetic surgery, mastectomy, and more. 2M is an inclusive unit that fosters respect, collaboration and support among all caregivers and prioritizes open communication to ensure that everyone feels heard and valued.2M also encourages RNs to obtain med/surg certification andparticipatein the Nurse Practice Council and Professional Congress.

A caregiver in this position worksnights from7:00PM â 7:30AM, including weekends and holidays.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:Â
Participate in a residency core curriculum based on individual learning needs.Â
Provide direct nursing care alongside asuccesscoach.Â
Establish and/or revise priorities for patient care (acuity of need, patientpreferenceand resource availability).Â
Initiate and/ormaintaininterventions toassurecontinuity of safe/effective care for patients.
Respond to dataindicatingrisk to patientsâ health and initiate action to correct, reduce or prevent risk.Â
Seeksupervision,consultationandassistancewhen unable to perform safely and independently.Â
Documentinpatientsâ medical records.Â
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:Â
Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing(ADN or BSN program)
Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)Â
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)or American Red Cross
New graduate RN OR less than one year of RN work experience
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Bachelor ofScience inNursing (BSN)
Physical Requirements:
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
