As an EMS Education Instructor, you will instruct and supervise students in the classroom for assigned courses in the clinical and didactic setting.You willbe responsible fordeveloping,implementingand evaluating curriculum and performing clinical site visits,record-keeping,and other school operations.Our instructors educate those who serve directly in their communities. A caregiver in this position worksvarying days/evenings between 8:30AM – 10:00PM. Shifts will be worked in 4-hour blocksas follows: 8:30AM – 12:30PM, 1:15PM – 5:15PM and 6:00PM – 10:00PM. Some weekends may berequired.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Instruct assigned EMS courses in the classroom and laboratory setting including lecturing, instructing labsessionsand other classroom duties.
Execute laboratory sessions based on lab agendas provided by the program.
Identifyequipment needs andenactcourse plan including instruction, supervision of simulated skill practice and evaluation of student performance whenrequired.
Offer one-on-one tutoring on practical skills and didactic material to EMT and Paramedic Students.
Assistwith the maintenance ofaccurateinventory of all EMS program supplies and equipment.
Make recommendations toProgramDirectorregardingequipment/product purchases.
Assistwith written test administration and evaluation.
Evaluate students in clinical/field internship rotations andsubmitstudent evaluations to the ProgramCoordinator.
Demonstrate continuing competence and currency in the professional discipline and teaching methodologies through a variety of activities (e.g., professional work experience, graduate education, continuing education,researchand other forms of professional growth).
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma or GED
FESI (Fire and Emergency Services Instructor, Level II) course completion within90 daysof hire
State of Ohio Paramedic Certification
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or ALS through American Red Cross
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within one year of hire
ITLS Provider within one year of hire
Basic Life Support Instructor (BLSI),Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Instructor (ACLSI)and Pediatric Advanced Life Support Instructor (PALSI) through theAmerican Heart Association (AHA) orAmericanRed Crosswithin one year of hire
ITLS(International Trauma Life Support)Instructorcertification within one year of hire
Fiveyears of EMS experience as an EMT, AdvancedEMTor Paramedic. Two years of the required five years of experience must be as a paramedic
Proficient with computers and software used for instructional purposes
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Associate’s Degreeor higher
National Registered Paramedic
Three years of experience as a Paramedic
Previousteaching experience
Physical Requirements:
Extensive travel from place to place at the work location and to travel between work locations
Working in a stationary position for extended periods
Occasional moving or transporting up to 25 pounds.
Ability to manipulate and move patients.
Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
