As a Laboratory Technician on this team, you will review consultations from other labs, evaluate paperwork for identifiers and complete data entry tasks. You will coordinate with leadership, supervisors, Pathologists and other lab reps to direct workflow and organize daily departmental functioning. A caregiver in this positionworksdays| full-time| 7:00am—3:30pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Perform advanced manual processing and problem-solving techniques in laboratoryaccessioning/data entry, probleminvestigationsand resolution.
Be involved in creating slides and/or duties associated with thesubspecialtyclient liaison.
Be familiar with data analytics.
Receive andaccessionspecimens into the LIS.
Conduct higher levelaccessioningin the LIS including esoteric testing.
Conduct advanced tracking investigations.
Serve as a subspecialty client liaison.
Be responsible foradvanced problem solving/issue resolution (pendinglog/SERS/block QA).
The following duties are specific to Anatomic Pathology: perform tasks involved with creating slides and/or cell blocks, perform frozen section processing (frozen section slide creation), create cell block slides, clinical histology tissue embedding, andassistin cytology adequacy assessments.
Prepare specimens for analysis.
Perform manual processing (centrifuge,aliquotingand routine maintenance).
Run and resolve LIS logs.
Retrieve, sort,trackand deliver specimens.
Perform logistic activities within and outside oflab.
Use tracking software/devices.
Comply withsafety,SOP& regulations.
Maintainappropriate documentation.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Associate Degree (preferably in science)
Two years of lab processing experience
Four years of lab technician or comparable processing experience (this may substitute the education requirement)
Active enrollment in the Cleveland Clinic MLS program maysubstitutethe education and experience requirement
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physicsor Medical Laboratory Science (this may substitute the experiencerequirement)
Priorlaboratory experience(academic or professional)
Research experiencegained through coursework, independent projects, or internships
Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform specimen handling techniques and take measurements.
Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.
Ability to move throughout the department and hospital system.
Handles and transports bio-hazardous materials and potential carcinogens.
Ability to differentiate color, hue, saturation, and tones.
Ability to live/move up to 50 lbs.
